Even though he was a guest at my house, Joe took the liberty of leaving me snoring in my bed and made breafkast. Woken by the lovely smell of pancakes, I opened my eyes to see him leering over me, big grin and a tray in his hands. "Since when did we go to your house?" I mumbled.
Joe laughed and set the tray down on the sidetable. "We're still at your house. I just wanted to make you breakfast in bed. Call me an old romantic," he explained, toussling my hair.
My face became hot as I pushed myself up and looked at him. "Heh .. you didn't have to. After all, *I'm* the one who should be catering to *your* every need. Being the host and all." Joe waved a hand and encouraged me to try the pancakes, his own recipe, he told me. A little wary, but even more hungry, I ate the pancakes and gave my stamp of approval. "Ah, why'd you let me sleep in so late? We're going to be late for our date!" I seemed vaguely horrified at this idea, but Joe laughed.
"It's not like we have things set in stone, eh?" He replied and I realized he was right and gave an embarassed shrug. Joe grinned and pecked my cheek. "I'll wait for you downstairs." He picked up the tray and went back downstairs.
After taking a quick shower and getting dressed, also spending meticulous care in making my hair look presentable, I met Joe downstairs. "Ready to go?" I asked, with a grin. "I have a lot of fun stuff planned for today."
He looked at me, and I felt myself get lost already in his blue eyes. "Really?" Joe asked, excited.
"Sure do!" I grinned, then told myself in the back of the head, I was lying through my teeth. We were just gonna wander all over the place, I had no real formal plan. I winked at Joe and we got into my car and I drove to Whyte Ave. "And now we walk."
Joe blinked. "We walk? But where are we?"
"Don't worry, no one's gonna mug you," I kidded. "This is Whyte Ave, there are a bunch of little shops down the streets. It's a beautiful day out so what's there to worry about?"
"Alright..." he still sounded unsure.
I kissed him lightly on the lips. "Trust me. You'll have fun." I got out of the car, as did he. After securing my car to make sure no one would take it (I'm not sure who would, Stacey took the good car, leaving me with our "invaluable" piece of junk Honda) I smiled to Joe. "Come on."
The sun came out in full force as we began walking down the sidewalk. Joe put on his shades and I let out a low whistle, grinning at the blush that quickly crept along his cheeks. "Anywhere in particular we're going?" He asked, stammering slightly.
"Nope. We're just going to wander. Whyte Ave's enjoyable if you just..meander from shop to shop, you spend a lot of time doing browsing, it's incredible. Even better if you have pleasurable company." Another blush. I was on a roll. Or incredibly corny. "Hey, let's go in here!" I grabbed Joe's wrist and pulled him into a shop that delt with Celtic themed charms.
"Wh-hey!" Joe stumbled a little as he came into the shop. He blinked and looked around the shop. "What's..."
"It's like a little charm shop that all the teenagers go to," I explained. "But you might find something interesting for you. Or for the kids." As I said this, I picked up a ring. "See? Cool stuff."
Joe smiled. "Cool stuff eh?"
I nodded. "Cool stuff." As Joe began to explore the shop I looked at the ring display under a class counter by the cash register. Trying to recall my short-memory, Joe didn't have any rings on, and I had to try and guesstimate his ring size. "Hm ..."
"Can I help you, sir?" the clerk asked.
"Eh? Oh yeah .. how much does that one cost?" I pointed to a silver ring that had an interesting maple leaf design, with a red stone embedded in it.
"Hm.. let me see." The clerk took the ring from out of the case and inspected the tiny tag. "$35."
"Ah, cool. I'll take it." I pulled out my wallet and handed the clerk two twentys. Getting back $2.55 in change, I thanked the clerk and walked over to Joe.
Joe turned and smiled. "Ready?"
"Was there anything you wanted for your kids?" I asked.
"Ah, I'll get them some souviners at West Edmonton Mall," Joe replied, shaking his head. "But right now, I just want to spend time with you and think about our date." I blushed slightly and we walked out. We spent the time browsing and acting like complete tourists. "Where is that ice cream store you promised we'd go to?"
"Oh! That. Heh, we're in luck, it's right here," I said, leading him in. "They've got the best strawberry Ice Cream in Alberta, I swear."
Joe's face lit up. "Awesome." He went straight for the counter and ordered a strawberry waffle cone for himself and I popped in a chocolate one. I paid for the cones, then after we recieved them, we went back outside. "This *is* good!"
"See? I told you so," I grinned, licking the ice cream. I almost let mine melt watching Joe lap up the frozen treat with such fervor. He devoured the cone in a record amount of time while I was still pecking away at the cone. Joe teased me about being a slow eater. "Hey, I like to savour things, thank you."
"You couldn't take much longer," He kidded, grinning. Finally I finished and pulled him over to a bench. "I got something for you." The day was slowly winding down, the sun was even beginning to set slowly.
Joe blinked. "You did? Ryan, you didn't have to--"
I put a finger to his lips. "Yes I did. Now hush." I pulled the bag out of my pocket and took out the ring. "How convenient..." I grinned and put the ring on his ring finger on his left hand, that being the only finger the ring fit on. Sneaking a kiss I watched his stunned reaction as he looked at the ring. "You like?"
He broke his gaze from the ring and looked at me. "God, Ryan .. this is a beautiful ring...thank you." Quickly looking around and seeing no one coming for a few yards, he kissed me deeply. "Thank you."
Smiling, I nodded. "You're very welcome. I'm .. really glad you liked it." Standing up, I grinned as Joe couldn't take his eyes off of the ring. As we walked back to the car, I finally pulled him to me and kissed him. He responded, putting his arms around me.
If there is there such a thing as a perfect day, I've just had it.
