Oakland is treating me fairly well. Yesterday I went to the Lake Merritt farmer's market and biked home by a fairly circuitous and hilly route. It seems that the income gap is (mostly) the elevation gap around here; as soon as you start climbing the hills the houses become much bigger and the yards get greener and more manicured. It's such a sharp contrast.

I need to find things to do here for the next few months while I house-sit. It would be nice to include art (print-making, tee printing, drawing, painting), yard work, gardening, cycling, stopping the war, dancing, hiking, seeing friends, receiving income and listening to live music. I have leads on some of these things already. Unfortunately a lot of the people I know here live across the bay, and I'm pretty bad about getting over there.

Yesterday when I came home there was a bird who had dug out a depression from one of the corn mounds that
rebbyribs  planted and was sitting in it. I watched her for a little while, but since it was a terrible place for a nest and since I needed to use the yard, I went into the back yard and she flew off. I'm pretty sure it was a grouse of some kind. I may make that mound into a tomato mound now. It was one of the few times I wished I had a camera.

My new favorite webcomic: The Abominable Charles Christopher. Such a good mix of nature and fancy. I think the artist nails the expressions particularly well.
