If you're in Europe by the time I get to New York, I'm gonna be pissed...
As for Romanian research, clearly you must do a scientific test of any and all unique Romanian alcoholic beverages. How alcoholic are they, really? Do they have any dairy in them? You know, stuff like that.
alas, alack, i won't be able to come to your party tomorrow. it's a hell of a drive, and I don't have a car. Or a licence. Or friends who can afford that much gas.
We're talking about making a big Beak* field trip to NYC in the spring sometime, though, maybe during spring break (end of Feb, I think) or after the term (early May). (* mostly myself, nineteenfishes, lillyv, manicsgirl, and jillontherocks, I think. Maybe also snowth. None of whom you've met, of course, but that's beside the point....)
As for research in Romania, I wholeheartedly agree with the birdwatcher---there is definitely a need for a scientific analysis of Romanian alcohol.....
I'm probably not coming to new York, but I am gogin to Europe, so we can hang out there. I would like to go to Romania. You know, part of my mom's family are gypsies who come from Transylvania (which, as far as I understand, is now in Romania, Slovakia and Hungary). Anyway, I third the alcohol research. Also, my sister and have been wanting to get a grant to be professional American apologists, where someone pays us to go to bars in other countries, buy people drinks, apologize for the general behaviour of America, and try to convince them that not all Americans are ignorant, arrogant assholes. I'm sure Romania needs this service. As for more serious possibilities, I am thinking about research and work in using the arts to create cultural understanding. You, being politics girl, would want to try to make it more political, but its a thought.
oh meglet! you should so come visit me when I'm in Romania. We can me discriminated against minorities there together! My grandfather's family is from Transylvania. Perhaps this is why I like the biting so much...although it is signifigantly less fun without a skap around to say "No! No biting!" Romania, by the way, is somewhat pro US, so I'm not sure being American apologists there is as worth it as say France, or anywhere in the middle east. By the way, I will be in your time zone later this month...although, not anywheres near enough to come visit :-(
