Work stuff

I had my annual review meeting at work yesterday. It's usually a case of 'You've done well. Here's the company wide pay rise now get back to work'.

This year however it was different; they want me to take on more responsibility! At the moment I do all the engineering drawings for our design engineers and then I give them part numbers and officially release them into production. Once the drawings go out the door that is that last I see of them.

Now they want me to keep doing that but also to create everything that production needs to manufacture the product. This means sourcing parts/visiting suppliers, creating process plans and helping the production line get the product going. I'm also going to be the main source of support for production in the engineering department. If there are any problems they're going to come to me.

As I am now pretty much in charge of the products in the leaving engineering to production sense, and then supporting them in the manufacture this means a lot more work for me. I am so excited about this. I am so happy that my manager believes that he can trust me with this extra responsibility. Also, as I will be working closer with the product for its whole life (rather than just the drawing stage) it means I can try and gently move in on the design stage of them. I really want to end up as a Proper Design Engineer and this is really going to help me get to that goal.
