The World Has Gone Mad And I Want Off

All right, maybe it isn't the entire world, but it is the United States, or, more specifically the state of Mississippi.   And I thought Clinton getting the Republican lobotomy was going to be tonight's worst news.  But, no, this tops that.

Mississippi House Bill 282 is a proposed law that will bar restaurants in the state from serving, and I quote ( Read more... )

I thought that surely someone was pulling your leg until I saw the bill on the state's public record online.

If there's any justice in the world, this stunt will cost Rep Mayhall his job come election time. Besides the discriminatory and privacy concerns towards the obese, this law would result in discriminatory practice against traditionally oppressed grounds. In Mississippi, 28% of the overall population is obese, but the percentage is higher among black people and women. Then, of course, there's the obvious economic impact. Somehow, I don't think restaurants would going to appreciate having almost a third of their business eliminated. At least it would have kept Jared out of Subway. Ironic effect, but better for us all in the long run, really.

Okay, done joking. OMGROTFWTFing! Can I just say that the guy is an asshole, and be done with it!? And an idiot because apparently he assumes fat people don't vote! Let's hope the rest of their lege is smarter than this f-tard. Grrragh!! >o<;;

I've heard it said that homophobia is the last fashionable prejudice. Homophobia is a big problem, but it doesn't get this cred; a truly fashionable prejudice is one no one calls you on having. My theory is that digust and disdain toward the obese is "the last fashionable prejudice", or at least tragically much closer.

The stupid really doesn't end when it comes to this proposed law. I'm not even sure what he thinks it will accomplish. Does he really think the solution to obesity is to force the obese to dine at home only? Does he think that he's making some kind of political statement? Does the word "think" belong in a sentence referring to him?
