Not dead or abducted by aliens

It's been pointed out to me that I haven't posted much of late.  I fear that, while I haven't been abducted by aliens, I have rather been abducted by space adventure.  My life rather boils down to playing SWTOR and writing (mostly SWTOR fan fiction *looks sheepish*) of late.  Well, and work, of course.

Max thoroughly approves of both gaming and writing, since he can curl up in my lap while I'm doing either.  Granted, it can sometimes be a little hard to play around a fuzzy ball of sleeping cat, but, eh well.  I may belong to the only gaming guild that suffers more from "cat aggro" than "spouse aggro" though.  (I am not the only player with helpful kitties.)

However silly it is that I am writing fan fic about some of my SWTOR characters, at least I'm writing, and consistently.  And getting practice trying out a few different things - for example, writing stories involving (as main characters) two women and a man, which are about friendship rather than romance.  One of the characters may have a romance with another character, but not one of the other main characters.  And wow is this hard to talk about in non-specific terms.  Perhaps I should be a bit more specific.  Hang in there, this gets complicated.

In game, I am, as usual, playing both factions.  (I think I've mentioned this here before.)  Republic side, my main is a Smuggler, who is generally light side and a basically decent person.  Think a green, female Han Solo, only more willing to admit that she's good.  Empire side, my main is an Imperial Agent, who is utterly light side and keeps letting people he's supposed to kill go and otherwise not exactly following orders. I'd say think James Bond, but, despite his tendency to sleep with people for information, he's really far too nice (and traitorous) to compare to Bond.  I'm also playing a Bounty Hunter who falls into the good is not nice category.  She's light side, too (yeah, I'm not really much on playing evil), but she's brash to the point of rudeness and perfectly willing to threaten to shoot people in the face if that makes them see things her way.  Given that this is a game where one can really feel like one has characters you can probably see where this is going.

So, yeah, I'm writing fan fic where in the three of them meet and eventually team up and act as, er, The A-Team in spaaaace.  Story One: the smuggler and agent meet and work out that they're both good people.  Story Two: The smuggler and the bounty hunter meet and work out that they're both good people.  Story Three: The three of them work together on something.  Story Four: The agent's treason finally catches up to him and the other two have to save him, and they become a permanent team.  Further Stories: whatever I come up with.  I'm currently working on One, Two, and Four.

I can't have my bounty hunter romance her companion character in game (yet.  if they ever do add same sex romance options, though...), but I am tempted to have them be a couple in my stories.  Though I worry that brash lesbian may be an unfortunate trope...  And, yes, I care even if no one else reads these things.  (Will I post them somewhere?  I have no idea.  I don't even know where I would post something like them.)

Mostly I just want to have stories in which men and women can be friends.

At work I am (probably foolishly) on the Diversity Team now and valiantly trying to make my workplace better.  I'd say I'm tilting at windmills, but it's more on the order of trying to slay dragons with a toothpick.  The problems are real, my ability to solve them not so great. Ah well, at least the team seems to be concerned this year.  We'll see what happens.

And that is the state of the Mac.
