So I haven't read manga in... a long time :D
Letsee, ever since I lost interest in Naruto and Bleach, I pretty much can't commit to any manga/anime anymore after that. Although I initially kept up pretty well with KHR when I got into it, I can't seem to do that since the end of high school. Especially now, since school work piles up fast, I'd rather sleep than read manga ;(
BUT, I finally caught up with some stuff, and read a few series/oneshots~
Blue Nathanael is a shounen-ai (hinted) oneshot by Inariya Fusanosuke, who's extremely popular with her yaoi series, Maiden Rose. While Maiden Rose and her other works aren't my cup of tea, since most of them are non-con, WWII-centered, angsty, etc. But I really enjoyed Blue Nathanael. Like her other works, it's beautiful and well-drawn. The characters aren't typical pretty boys from generic yaoi/shounen-ai works. The setting is interesting (futuristic, war setting), and the story is engaging. What I like is the moral of this story, how it's a romance without being romantic. In fact, it's bittersweet, it's realistic, it's a little heartbreaking, but hopeful at the same time. I like how the author portrays war, the soldiers in war and their morality.
I think it's the most beautiful shounen-ai I've read in awhile.
Currently reading
DOGS. I'm still a long way from catching up to the most recent chapter, but I'll get there! The art is really beautiful, and the action scenes are so well done. The characters' designs are so impressive and interesting, and the mysteries behind some characters keep the readers engaged. The characters themselves are just plain awesome. There's Baidou, a nicotine-addict who goes on a killing-spree when he doesn't get his fix. There's Haine with his mysterious past. I haven't read that far yet, but the manga has a lot of potential.
FINALLY caught up with
Kuroshitsuji (my sister kept on nagging me to!). The setting is so intense in the recent chapters. What I like about Kuroshitsuji is the fact that the artist explores so many different settings, stories in her different arcs. Each arc is a new adventure, beautifully drawn with new, interesting, fun characters, all the while, slowly revealing the main plot surrounding Ciel and Sebastian's background.
I especially love this most recent arc. I enjoy the mystery the author incorporates, and the cliffhangers leave me breathless. Can't wait until the next chapter, when I know Tobosa Yana will never disappoint.
So far, there's only one chapter (scanlated) to
Usagi Otoko Tora Otoko, but it looks promising. The interaction between the characters are so amusing and hilarious. The parallelism between the characters and the tiger and the rabbit, honestly, makes me think a little of Twilight ("So the lion falls in love with the lamb" LOL'ed), but the premise is a lot funnier, and nothing like Twilight (praise the lords).
And.... I really should go do my homeworks now!
