kids say the loveliest things

So, a couple of weeks ago, there was a knock on our door. I opened it to find a preteen girl, probably 10 - 12 years old, clutching a binder with a white cross on it. About ten feet behind her stood a watching adult. I steered myself for some proletizing.

"Is your mother or father home?" she asked. Never mind my toddler clutching my legs, I was wearing a short skirt and had long hair, hence in this innocents mind, I had to be a teenager, or maybe a college kid living at home.

I kept the smile mostly off my face and said, "No, not right now."

She left, which was the icing on the cake. I called my father directly afterwards to gloat.

And then, last weekend, when we were hiking at Governor Dodge State park, we ran into a troop of boy scouts. Maciek was bent over photographing a frog when the boy next to me mumbled, "Isamuteraothoer?"

"What?" I asked.

"Is you mutter a photographer?"

Again I kept a straight face and told him that "she" was a photographer, but not a professional.

So, to clueless preteens, I look half my age, and Maciek, at least with his hair over his face, looks like a 40+ year old female. He's thinking of getting a haircut.
