Modern Times was one of the only silent films I have seen. I was surprised by how entertaining it was without the presence of sound. I found the symbolism at the beginning, portraying the workers and sheep, to be very fitting of the monotony of the work and the loss of the individual. When the feeding device is introduced it shows how technology is taking over the everyday tasks of humans, as well as demonstrating how business owners will sacrifice their employees welfare it be more efficient. Modern Times shows how technology is taking over, for even when Charlie Chaplin leaves his post to take a break, his body continues to move as if it was still working, unable to detach itself from the machinery.
