One option is to conduct the voting similar to how lilyjames_fest does, allowing people to vote on each entry as it is posted (example here) and then choosing the three with the highest scores as the best of the fest.

One concern is comments. The mods want to see everyone to receive the recognition they deserve for their hard work in creating a gift for someone else. We've considered shortening the length of the fest - posting two pieces a day so the fest runs for only two or three weeks. That wasn't possible this year, unfortunately, because so many people requested extensions but it is something to keep in mind for future years.

Another idea would be to change the time of year when we hold the fest. While August is great in that there aren't many fests happening at that time, there's a good reason there's not many fest happening at that time. Many people are on vacation, getting ready for school, or busy for some other reason. There are other months of the year, such as January, May, November, which don't have many fests and could be options for future fests.

And if you have any other suggestions not mentioned here, feel free to bring them up in comments.
