The day dragged on as I sat anxiously at my desk, awaiting the familiar sound that I had heard every single day before this one. Today would be the last time I will hear it.... at least for a couple of months. The clock said it was 11:31, but my body felt like it should be much later than that. School gets out at 12, and then I am free for summer. I slowly put my head into my hands while my teacher lectures us about being safe over the summer and preparing for our senior year. I closed my eyes and dozed off. In what seemed like a couple of seconds, the school bell went off, leaving me half deaf for at least a minute. I grabbed my backpack and slung it around my shoulders, hurrying out the door. Free. At last.

I started walking towards my house when I heard giggling in a nearby bush. The noise sounded like two male students. I wanted so desperately to take a peek at their actions, but realized that I would be so rudely intruding. i started my pace up again when I heard a name being called.

"Jefferey..."

One of the guys from the bush was speaking the name of Jefferey. I knew not a single person of our age with that name. I decided that the guys were from a different school, and that I shouldn't really give a shit about the situation. I steadied my pace back to a fast walk as I moved away from the scene. As I approached my house and I felt a grin sliding onto my face. The feeling of freedom once again flowing throughout my body. I jogged to my front door and opened it wide. Inside my mother was making lunch for us. My dad passed away years ago, and my mom and I seemed to be ok by ourselves. Although, my mom isn't the best cook, she still tries her best.

"What's for lunch?"

"Something between grilled cheese, and burnt bread that was unfortunate enough to have fallen in cheese."

Gotta love my mom. I sat down at the table while she asked about my last day of school. After the gourmet lunch, I made my way to my room. I had been without at mate for a long time now, and I missed having someone to cuddle up with after school. I hope I find someone special soon, or else it's gonna be a far too long summer......

Two very short months later.....

Did summer have to go that fast? Now school is starting up again, and I am not sure what to expect. I packed my backpack with my newly packaged items that I purchased for the year. Oh, how I was dreading the day. I zipped up my bag and threw it on my back, heading out the door. I kept a steady pace as I walked to school.

When I arrived I saw all of the familiar faces from the passed year. I also noticed some new ones. I walked through the hallway, approaching my first period. The teacher glares at me and points to an empty desk in the back. I take a deep breath and walk to it. I set my backpack on my char, and get settled in. I take a glance around and notice an awkward young man sitting at the next desk over. He looked confused and uncomfortable. I start to reach over when the teacher yells.

"Ian! Keep your hands to yourself."

Of course, the first five minutes of school and I've already gotten yelled at. The awkward boy looks over to me and turns away quickly.
He is pretty much flawless. His dark brown hair falls to one side of his face and goes almost down to his chin. His eyes sparkle as the light hits them. And his cheeks are pink, like... cotton candy. Shit. What the fuck am I doing talking about a dude that way. I turn to look forward and start to concentrate on the teacher. After several minutes, the bell rings, signaling next period. I look at my schedule and head to my next classroom. I notice the awkward boy walking with his books held up against him and he face tucked in. I decide not to worry about it and continue walking to the next classroom. Ahh, room 302. Maybe I will make a better impression on this teacher than the last one. I walk in and take a seat at an empty desk. I get out my things and try pay attention to the teacher, but something is restricting me from doing so.

The awkward young man was swimming in my thoughts, but why? He was exactly the kind of person that I would not hang out with. He was so shut away and quiet.. almost as if....he was concealing something. This boy interested me. I wanted to find out more about him. I made a mental note to befriend him and figure out his mystery.

RRIINNGG!

The bell goes off, startling me. Third period, lunch. Perfect. I push my way through the crowd, looking for the boy. I finally spot him alone at a table in the back. I make my way to him and sit down right in front of him. He takes his eyes away from his food and plants them on my for a split second and then goes back to his food. I stare at him for a long time, watching him eat silently.

"Hey dude." I finally break the silence.

He returns the greeting by looking up.

"Being the new kid can be tough. I was the new kid before. I know how you feel."

He nods in agreement.

What is up with him? Why is he so uncomfortable?

"My name's Ian." I said with a goofy smile on my face.

He finally spoke.

"Nice to meet you, Ian."

My smile disappeared as he talked. I've heard that voice. I hear it in my head from time to time. He's the one from the bush. He is the one who called out the name Jefferey.

"What's... your name?" I said trying to hide my expressions with a smile.

"Anthony.... Anthony Padilla."

"Well, It's nice to meet you." I said.

As time went by, me and Anthony become good friends. Of course, he doesn't know that I overheard him in the bush. I try to keep that away from my thoughts because I am not one to judge a man for being gay.
