Interest rates have moved!

Interest rates have moved. This makes me wonder, when was the first recorded use of the phrase "this is good/bad news for homeownder but bad/good news for savers" and who said it?

Dunno, but we're having no luck selling our house near York because the housing market is just dead at the moment. We will of course be scrapping the mortgage-in-principle we have in place at the moment as soon as the mortgage companies drop their rates...

I swear when my parents moved from when I was 12, that interest rates were only just becoming an important news item, and the balance of payments and inflation was more likely to hit the headlines.

Perception of economics when you are a teen is a strange thing though.

When you were 12 (thinks) it would've been the mid-80s and inflation was ghastly.

Really? They were only 12p a packet when I was 17 and going to youth club. Oh wait, 20% in 5 years is about right.
