On the way to work in Queens, I stopped into a supermarket to pick up breakfast. Upon exiting, I noticed what appeared to be a mangled little plastic toy in front of the automatic door. Upon closer inspection, I realized that it was in fact a dead dart frog that looked remarkably like this little fellow:



Only, you know, more stepped on.

If I recall my elementary school science classes correctly, aren't these little fellas highly toxic and rather unsuitable for pets? Any sort of dead wildlife would have been unexpected, this seemed particularly exotic; did lil' Darty make it all the way from the South American rain forests, only to get squished in Rego Park?

Then I found a hypodermic needle, and a rat propelling itself with only one leg, so it was sort of a day of discovery.
