I'm not feeling very verbose this evening, but I did want to share some happy news with my readers. Yesterday afternoon I officially became the proud new mama of a four-month-old chinchilla! Her name (as of right now) is Millie, and she really is the cutest little rodent I've ever seen. I'll post photos as soon as I find some batteries from my camera, but in the mean time here is a photo sent to me from her previous owner:
Isn't she adorable? Although, the red-eye feature on the camera makes her look a bit evil in this photo...
She's a very friendly little chinchilla, and loves to run, jump, and climb around my room and roll around in her dust bath. My cats seem very interested in her, but introductions won't occur for some time yet. Chinchillas are from the Andes Mountains in South Ameria, and felines are among their natural predators. Millie came from a household with cats, so I don't think she'll be too frightened of Abby and Calvin, but I just don't trust my cats yet. Better safe than sorry!
Because chinchillas are from the Andes, I have to keep my room like an ice box so she doesn't get heat stroke. It's a bit uncomfortable, but I just threw on an extra blanket on my bed so I'm okay sleeping.
Other possible names: Betty, Darla
I rather like "Millie" for now. :)
(P.S. Kudos, brownie points, etc. to anyone who knows where the title of this journal entry came from.)
