Sore wa yappari kimi deshita (Nino's solo)
I’ve always loved the composer of the melody (Ochi Masahiro) for this song, so I’ve always thought that I wanted to work together with him someday. My wish was granted this time round, and when I received the demo tape from him, I thought, “Aaah, I knew it, it’s great.” Although I fiddled around with the arrangement on my piano for about 3 to 4 days, I sent the music director my progress each day. “That’s what I’ve come up with so far,” I’d say. And because I thought it was somewhat questionable to sing “Lalala” along to the melody, I wrote some lyrics with the intention that it would be tentative. When I tried singing it, it turned out to have a nice hook so we went along with the lyrics as they were. That’s why composing the lyrics took a short time.
In the recording studio, it takes about an hour for the digital signal to be processed back into an audio signal, and I’m totally free while waiting! So within that hour, I thought of competing (with the processing) to see if I could write the lyrics within that period of time. And I managed to pull it off. (laughs) However, as a result, the lyrics turned out to be forlorn… (TV Pia: Is the person referred to in the lyrics already departed from this world?) Yes, that’s right. In my teens, the songs I composed had lyrics which depicted scenarios that were beyond redemption. (laughs) Somehow, things just turned out that way. Then I happened to think back on when I composed “Niji”. Because the situation was similar, in that I was writing the song for a loved one and that I was writing the lyrics and arranging the song; so the lyrics in the last stage were written as a continuation to “Niji”. And then the situation had some kind of hope. In the beginning, the arrangement was a little hardcore, or rather, somewhat depressing. But since the album IS called “Popcorn”, I thought listeners needed to feel good while listening to the song, so I gave my best shot at giving it a pop slant.

Well, I guess I shouldn't have forgotten that he did say それはやっぱり君でした was a continuation from 虹. I'd like to see the interview in Japanese, and get my 先生 to read it for me. I want to see what he actually says, not a translation. I don't know what to make of him, the unattainable idol.
