Smile, UPDATE!

Sigh. Even if I suspend belief that some incident caused her to lose her voice, it doesn't explain bad acting. Doesn't she realize that IF YOU MOUTH WORDS, DON'T NOD YOUR HEAD AS YOU SAY THEM. It makes it HARDER for people to see what the hell you're saying! I think I have yet to see Aragaki Yui in something I like. She was terrible in Zenkai Girl, I have yet to watch Hanamizuki and I think she was slightly above passable in Mou Yuukai Nante Shinai. I think she is just an actress that doesn't sit well with me. Hopefully Hanamizuki will change my mind, but from what I've seen so far, I'm definitely not impressed.

Oguri-san again plays the bad guy expectedly well, though I miss his Hanazawa Rui role. A role where he WASN'T a bad boy. Jun's CHARACTER is annoying me, no backbone and all, and at times I find his acting unbelievable. Especially the crying scenes. The scene where they were at the funeral did bring tears to my eyes, but more because the shots of the other actors interspersed with Jun's speech made me sad.The rest of the time, I do forget that he's Matsumoto Jun, the idol, and believe that he's Vito.

Also, this is the first time I have ever thought that the episodes are LONG. They seem to drag on, unlike some of the other dramas I've recently watched. Maybe the story lines were lighter, and I really shouldn't compare, but this drama does seem draggy. I'm at episode 6 now, about a third way through, and despite my harsh criticisms, I do want to know how the story ends. I do enjoy the harder side of this drama, the side that showcases racism and the stress that drove the Boss to hang himself. Not in a sadistic way, but it's not fluffy, and that's why I like it. It gives the drama a bit more realism, which is then swiftly taken away by Aragaki's terrible head-nodding. I do wonder how an actress can NOT say anything and annoy me.

XOXO
