It was VERY different to what I expected it to be. I'm going to put it down to the fact that I had no idea what the drama was about, and so I had no prior expectations as to what it was going to be like. Nino did well in his role, so much so that I actually did believe that he was a spineless walkover. I know the role was written that way, but BOY was he REALLY gutless. At one point, I actually yelled at the screen "GROW SOME BALLS!". I guess instilling that kind of feeling into a watcher is a talent. I forgot I was watching Ninomiya Kazunari, and I watched a character. I believed that it was him, and I was annoyed at the person that he was. So, hats off Nino.
On to Yoko, this is the second role I've seen him in, both times taking me by surprise, and both keeping me pleasantly surprised. He wasn't as convincing as Nino, I didn't believe that he was a 19 year old ex-gang member, but he did provide good comic relief and he was brazen and noisy as his character called for it. Seeing him again in a role so different then the one I saw him last in was a nice touch.
The drama itself, I can't say much about. It was a strange storyline, where there was no real ending, unlike most of the dramas that I've watched. It's just kind of a snapshot of Ippei's life, with no PROPER ending. I'm not sure if I like it or not. At times, it was draggy, and overworked but I wasn't expecting anything out of the drama, hence the lack of disappointment.
All in all, I probably won't watch this drama again, it was a good in between drama, coming off the semi-trainwreck that was Mikeneko and the pretty heavy retribution that was Quiz Show II. Oh! Before I forget, my sister watched QSII, and apparently she enjoyed it! Some things didn't gel perfectly with her, but they don't overlap with mine. She could deal with the whole memory switching thing, but other bits like where was Kamiyama staying and WHY. Things like that bothered her. Also, she's taken Maou from me, and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT SHE SAYS ABOUT IT. I think she finally trusts me when I tell her a drama is good. :D I think I'll attempt Pikanchi next, no need for a random generator this time! We'll see though.
