Interesting history of the Lower Ninth Ward

Wikipedia entry - My "favorite" bit is this (emphasis mine): "Local groups such as ACORN have lobbied the city government on behalf of the local landowners not to seize their property, and are continuing to recruit volunteers to engage in the gutting and rebuilding of these homes. The matter is complicated by the apathy expressed by many of the pre-Katrina residents[citation needed], as the neighborhood has almost few stores and schools, and suffers from a high rate of violent crime."

That's a nice little chunk of racial generalization there, doncha think?
