Last summer I went to Barnes and Noble on Washtenaw to study for my Arabic final. There weren't any free tables so I joined a man who was reading by himself. Taking a break from studying, I looked over at him and observed that he was reading several books about being gay and middle aged. He caught me looking at him and turned away slightly embarrassed. I felt guilty and left shortly after. Then a few months later I saw him in the stacks at the grad library. Today I saw him for the first time since then at the grad library in the microfilm section. Again, I could have sworn that he recognized me. I wanted to say hi but he was very involved in photocopying some pages out of a giant reference book. What do these encounters mean? Or is it just a silly coincidence that has no significance? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
