Today it became official. I'm in love... with Lebanon!
It was a great day. I'll tell you about it. I went to lunch at an outdoor cafe and enjoyed the nice weather and a bagel wannabe. Then it was off to the library where I challenged myself with logic problems. I got tired and left. On the way back I stopped to check out whether or not the track was free. I went a different way than usual and discovered a new trail-like area where there are grassy steppes. I sat down in the sun and started to read Heart of Darkness, which I like so far. Anyway there was a men's soccer game going on at the track so I decided to go for a walk along the sea. I ended up at the Pigeon Rocks, which are only a couple miles away from campus. They are so beautiful. I wish I could accurately describe how truly beautiful Lebanon is today. Hariri's sister has called everyone back into action again, but this time there are no protests. It is now time to stop living in fear of bombs, assassinations, and general political unrest. People are out and about downtown and all along the water. The pigeon rocks were covered in people. Families had picnics, arguili, music, happiness. The water sparkled and seemed to yell out it's own radiance. Boys were swimming in the water. No lifeguards. No parents. They were silly and fun to watch. I saw a big school of fish too. I'll bring my camera next time so you guys can get a glimpse. It's just amazing. magic.
