Branching Out:

A while back, I was commissioned to create an art piece with the glass from a Jewish wedding.  I didn't want to hide any part of the glass by gluing it down because of some of the beautiful detail.  So I decided to suspend the glass in a cylindrical display case.  For sculptural effect, I used wire wrapped river stones (in display of the solidification of their union) and also suspended butterflies that I painted black to match the glass and stones.  They were married at the Cockrell Butterfly Exhibit in Houston.  Around the lid of the casing is a collection of burgundy paper flowers to disguise the mounting on the inside of the lid, as well as to add a pop of color and depth.  The remaining unused (teeny, tiny) pieces of glass I scattered at the bottom of the case for a bit of a ripple effect and depth.

All I really have of the final piece are a few cruddy cell phone photos.  I know... I know, but I'll have mucho better shots soon enough.  The client is a professional photographer and she toooootally owes me one. ;)

This project was a first for me, and I'm really thrilled with how it came out.  It looks even better in person.  And the client is uber happy with it.  Which means I'm over the moon.

In other news, I'm having a HUGE print sale.  I need to make some money if I'm going to play in the Softball World Series (in Columbus) this year.  Which I absolutely want to do.  I've yet to be on a team that has qualified to go, and it looks like my team will very most likely be going this year.  So I'm beyond thrilled.  I cannot put into words what an honor it would be to represent my team and my city in the World Series.  Not to mention, playing the sport I love more than anything in the world against teams from all over the country and Canada. So please take a chance to look at my print sale set over on Flickr.  I'm selling 8"x10"s for $20.  And if you'd like me to mat and frame the print(s) for you, I'll do that as well (for an additional $30).  My matted and framed 8"x10" prints usually sell for $100, so getting one for $50 is a HUGE DEAL!  Jump on it!  You know you want to!
