In my eyes, Wes Anderson can do no wrong. I've loved every single one of his movies that I've seen (minus The Royal Tennebaums and Bottle Rocket because I don't remember seeing the first and I've NEVER seen the second). I was stoked to finally see The Darjeeling Limited at the library and I instantly snapped it up. I watched it this morning.
It seemed like Anderson wanted to go in a completely different direction than his other movies. And obviously Darjeeling is different: 1)it takes place in India a majority of the time, 2) it focuses on siblings, and 3) it's not the typical dry humor of Anderson. There are, of course, some very Anderson-movie-esque moments ("I LOVE YOU, TOO, BUT I'M GOING TO MACE YOU RIGHT NOW!), but overall, I thought this movie was more serious than his others. I don't know if that works for Anderson. I'll have to watch it again in a few weeks/months (by that time my initial reaction will be long gone) and see if I still feel the same way.
Maybe what didn't quite rub me the right way was the "spiritual" journey Peter, Francis, and Jack were suppose to go on. I'm feeling very anti-spiritual right now.
But hey. You can't go wrong with Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody. Together. In the same movie.
PS. I'm having a good hair day.
