So where to pick up from after we left off?
My eyes are knackered again. Well one of them is.
The weekend before last the vision in my left eye got a little cloudy & I figured it was my corrective lens but the next day my eye was really raw so I went straight to the eye emergency room where the comment usually is "Blimey! You've been here a few times haven't you?"
My left eye had an ulcer in it which was probably caused by the general wear and tear and risk of putting the large corrective lens to correct my vision so I could see into my eye.
The ulcer had caused swelling and an infection and a small army of eye drops prescribed later and I was sent on my way.
What followed was 48 hours of doing eye drops on the hour EVERY hour, so yes usable sleep was not really going to happen, and given my eyes I was going to be able to do much other than listen to the radio and try not to go crazey.
It was a close call.
I've been back several times since for follow up appointments, they're generally happy with how it is healing but are waiting to see what happens next. But when similar happened to my left eye I was left with scar tissue & we ended up moving on to a corneal graft and I am suspecting this is the way this is going this time too. More appointments to follow.
So right now the situation is this.
I can't see out of my left eye properly. It is a cloudy mess, sensitive to light & a little swollen and tender still. I can not wear a corrective lens in it. I suspect I won't again for a long time if at all.
Now the good news is that this happened after my right eye was restored to vision (corrective lens, ulcer, graft, cataract!) so I am not helpless. Righty is now long sighted. So I wear reading glasses to even check my phone, read or go on the computer which is something I am still getting used too. Difficult adjustment.
The big problem is that lefties knacker vision effects righties making everything up hill work.
I am very light sensitive which has made the walk home at night incrediably harsh now the clocks have gone back.
I have some blurred vision
I am adjusting to new depth perception, blind spots and focal points. In fact it is the inverse of what I had before my vision was fixed in my right eye.
It's proving a tough adjust. Crowds, walking near people on my bad side, crossing roads, it's all a bit scary and risky. I actually walked into a wall in a brightly lot corridor.
Hopefully it will get better with practice and time, and hopefully will be corrected with surgery in time. Oh yay, more stitches in my eye.
This whole thing has been a struggle.
