This post was actually born of an experience I had this weekend buying shoes at Macy's. I was up to pay but there was a family (mom, dad, two little kids) in front of me trying to buy stuff too. I’ll go ahead and say that they were Asian, for what it’s worth, and you can let your own stereotypes (if you have any) affect your reading of this story. That is to say, I’m absolving myself and throwing the possibility of racism squarely to you, the reader. Anyway, I was standing for literally over 10 minutes, which is a long time to just stand when you're second in line. They were first arguing about some card and then apparently wanted the purchase done in cash, even though the lady had already paid with some card. So the cashier made the switch, but the woman DIDN'T BELIEVE HER, even after being shown the receipt and whatever other proof the cashier could think of. The cashier ended up just checking me out, because clearly nothing was going to happen any time soon, so I didn't get to see how it resolved.
That's the thing: why do you go to the store and make absurd demands and then, furthermore, refuse to believe that they have been met?
