Chapter 4

This chapter's a bit longer (word count: 5,248) but it's smutty, that's my excuse. And please bear with a certain schmoopy conversation; it'll be de-schmoopified in a later chapter but for now it needs to be the way it is.

Man, I'm so glad I'm sick. 'Cause if I wasn't, I would be in class now and would have had to wait another hour to read this.

The class difference between Sawyer and Jack is a really big deal, in my opinion, that doesn't get addressed with too much depth in most fic, so I'm glad you're getting into it, into the fact that it really does play into their relationship because Sawyer, at his heart, will never really believe that he's good enough for Jack, and Jack will never be able to understand 100% where Sawyer comes from because he's lead a pretty sheltered, privileged life. I love that, with these issues, there's no good guy and no bad guy, neither one of them is right or wrong. Jack can't understand where Sawyer comes from, but it isn't really fair of Sawyer to assume that he knows exactly how Jack grew up.

And then it's balanced by when we see that, no matter how much they fight and how volatile they can be, they really are in love with each other. Jack isn't afraid to let his mother and a whole restaurant know it (and like you said, in the Bible Belt, no less). And I love that about him. Sawyer is right, Jack's mother is jealous of Sawyer because he gets to have Jack and she doesn't. But that's a lot more understandable than I thought it would be. I mean, what mother wants to lose their son to someone else? It's why there are so many Mother-in-Law jokes, I guess.

Jack pulls him closer and he buries his face in Sawyer’s stomach, and he feels him inhale, a deep shaky breath of anticipation.

Oh. My. God. That's image is just so...yeah, I feel like I need a cold shower or a cigarette or something. *fans self*

You're doing such an amazing job with this hun. It's coming together so well and you're working so damn hard. :) Keep it coming.

Oh, hon, I'm sorry you're sick! I will send Dr. Jack just as soon as Sawyer is, um, done with him. ;)

I'm a little nervous addressing both the class and the sexual orientation issues in this story; it's a good way to step on toes I don't mean to step on. I'm glad this comm is mostly made up of people who already know me well enough to know that I don't mean to offend anyone, no matter what their background or beliefs. The class thing is going to be a theme, but not in the way you might think. And you and others on my flist helped me crystallize it in my head that Jack is not a snob, he's just sheltered and a bit oblivious. Thank you for that!

Sawyer is right, Jack's mother is jealous of Sawyer because he gets to have Jack and she doesn't.

Yes, and the difference between them is that Sawyer wants him because he loves him, but I'm not so sure Margo does. I think she just wants him for status, to bask in his reflected glory. Sawyer really wants him to be happy.

Um, eep, sorry I heated you up when you have a fever! ;) Really, hon, thank you so much for reading even though you're feeling bad. *loves you lots*
