Hello, world!

Apr 16, 2007 00:06

Greetings, everyone!

Allow me to introduce myself. Nicholas D. Wolfwood, at your service! I'm a priest by trade, and also a business man of sorts. Well, I'm only a businessman because I have to make money for our church, which kind of doubles as an orphanage.

Speaking of which, does anyone want to buy a portable confessional? They're cheap, and the ( Read more... )

A portable confessional? Not everyone here subscribes to your religion, you know. And it doesn't look as cheap as you profess it to be.

I'm not saying everyone has to buy it. Certainly not everyone has to be religious. Hell, I'm not religious half the time. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I'm a rather... unique priest.

And as for whether they're cheap or not, you're not going to buy one, so why should you care?

Pleased to meet you by the way. It's so nice to know that the people here are so damn welcoming.

But you're promoting it to a community with a Christian population of about one percent. And really? Are all the priests here 'unique'? I mean, that Howell person's hopelessly subservient to his perv of a god, Anderson goes around threatening people, Sanzo thinks everyone is an idiot and tries to shoot them... And then there was that priest I know who turned out to be a fraud. Seriously, is the profession even sacred to anyone anymore?

Yeah, but see, you're trying to sell it by saying it's cheap. So I'm asking how cheap it can get; curiousity doesn't hurt.

You're awfully welcome. :D

Well, I haven't met everyone here yet, so I wouldn't know. I do believe that everyone is unique in their own special way. The profession... well, most of the priests where I come from take their job very seriously. Maybe this community only attracts the eccentrics.

And to tell the truth, wherever I try to promote it, no one seems particularly interested, even when I tell them it's for a good cause. Unfortunately, there's not many other ways a priest can make money that's acceptable to the church.

How cheap can it get? Really, any little bit counts.

You're a very interesting person, did you know that?

Considering how this community is, I'm not surprised.

Uh well. People aren't interested in documenting their sins. They don't see the point of buying a portable confessional so that they can think about how to be a saint day after day. And anyway, the confessional doesn't come with a priest now, does it?

Huh.

... I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Hmm... you know, you're right. I'd never really given that much of a thought before. And no, it doesn't come with a priest. Maybe I could throw in a priest doll for half price... but since no one's going to be buying them anyway, there's no point, is there?

No, I wasn't being sarcastic. You're very interesting. We barely know each other and yet you're already bringing up your skepticism toward religion and other deep conversation topics. Not very many people skip the small talk and go straight to the big stuff, you know.

You could try selling other things that don't involve getting people to think about their daily sins. Like coffee. You can dupe people into buying coffee with zero effort.

Ah, sorry. I guess that would be my supposed bad habit. I don't believe in a god, and I'm pretty sceptical of anyone who claims that there is one. ... At least, not on my world; apparently, there are gods on this community.

Hmm... maybe. I'll take it into consideration, certainly.

Perfectly understandable. It's hard to believe in something that you have to take on faith... Not many people are willing to believe in something they can't see or touch. I have trouble with it myself.

There are gods here? What do you mean?

That, and people who believe in faith blindly don't question anything and think that god will always provide for them. It's kind of stupid.

Why did you become a priest if you have trouble with religion? There're always other career options.

Ah, you're new, so you haven't seen them yet. There are gods from a mythology of the various 'Earths'; I think they called it Greek mythology. There's Aphrodite, Athena, Eris... Loki and Ragsiel are also gods.

Not everyone who believes thinks that God will provide everything. I tend to believe that you have to get what you need for yourself, and God will help you get there.

It's not that I have trouble with religion. It's just that sometimes I'm not sure of my faith. I've been through a lot of things in my life, and much of it has left me wondering what to believe. Most of the time I try not to worry about it, but every now and then it comes back and nags at me. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why I'm a priest myself. I guess I figured that I had screwed up my life enough already... it was about time to try to turn it around.

Ah, right, the other worlds. Someone explained that to me. So everyone here is from a different world? That's very interesting.

Isn't that a self-fulfilling prophecy? I don't think god plays any part in one's success or failures.

Believe in what suits you the best, I suppose. There's no point in being torn apart about something that doesn't affect you directly or tangibly. So good for you if you believe that your god will help you in your life, same thing if you don't think so but continue to believe anyway. Although that would be kind of pointless, there.

Some of the people here come from the same worlds, but yeah. There're a lot of people from different worlds here.

Whatever. I just try to live my life, I guess. If I can help people on the way, then great.

I'm glad we've reached an impasse. You believe what you believe, and I'll believe what I believe. Everybody wins.
