and what's on your back porch?

Yesterday:
I step outside to walk to my car and there is a big black bird on my porch. Being used to large chickens and turkeys at various jobs over the years I first thought "why is there a big chicken/turkey on my porch?" And then I realized this was no turkey. It was a vulture. And as it hopped off into my yard I realized it had a very broken wing, most likely due to Ike. I left for the store and pondered what to do. A friend I ran into at the store offerred to come shoot it if it was still around later. Sadly I accepted. There's no resources here for rehabbing vultures. Got home. Vulture still in yard. It hopped off sometime in the afternoon but I have been very sad for it. Poor vulture. It was just wrong to see it hopping and trying to fly and the wing hanging all cockeyed and weird.

Today:
I go to step outside and almost step on a half-eaten frog on my BRAND NEW Halloween doormat. It says Keep Out and has a lovely skull and crossbones. Just the kind of welcome I want to extend to my infrequent visitors. It works well with the Hippies Must Use Back Door vintage metal sign I got at Hobby Lobby. And now there's frog guts all smeared on it, and a pair of frog legs stuck in the bristly part of the mat. I get to clean that up. Gross. Gross. Yuck.
