[The device flicks on to show a redhead leaning back against a tree, smoking against even his own judgment. He doesn't have many left, but he figures one right about now seems like a good idea.]Alright, so that map showed me this isn't really what I'm used to so I guess there's a few basic questions I've gotta ask. For starters, how many of you out ( Read more... )

[He raises his hand helpfully, but Fuji is never not helpful. Of course.] Some of us have, and it seems that a lot of us are aware of the video-game-ish setting. In terms of the differences, I figure it's something similar to how game developmental companies come up with sequels for games.

[Wistful.] They took quite a few of the old elements that worked and reworked them into the setting. You'll find that most things are similar.

I guess the biggest difference would be the influx of new pokemon. There're some new faces around here that are pretty interesting.

New Pokémon, huh?

[Well, that complicates things and makes them a bit more interesting.]

Got any idea of how many of them?

Mm, I'm not sure. I doubt anyone has captured all of them yet, but they're fairly distinctive.

Gyms, on the other hand, I think they retained the original number -- but I might be wrong. It's been a while since I last played.

So I guess the 'Gotta catch 'em all' aspect is out the window with the new additions. There were eight gyms in the original game, and then the Elite Four in the Pokémon League.

Even without the new additions, I doubt the original slogan is possible. Didn't the original games have certain countermeasures about that? [Say, mew, for example. :C]

Well, getting MewTwo was a bit of a pain in the ass and depended on Team Rocket... And to get the starters and their evolutions you had to trade. But I usually managed to get all of them in my game. Then again, I didn't have much other to do as a kid.

[Because obviously it's not like he had studies to do for a prodigy orphanage or anything. The other kids didn't like him very much.]

Maa, it sounds like you grew up playing those games. [There is a flash of blue there as he considers the other through barely closed eyelids. Because he's like that and he's generally the sort of person who pings to people with similar personalities. Or something like that. It's over before it begins, though.]

Well, you might be pleased to know that all the starters are more or less available in the wild, depending on where you look. I remember seeing a charmander up in Mt. Mortar and squirtles in the Lake of Rage.

If nothing else, that should make things easier, if you're planning on going for that route.

I'm going for the gym challenge. Maybe if we beat the game, a path or something can be opened back home. I really don't care myself, but I've got a... friend I guess, that needs to go back.

You sound like you don't have anything worth returning to.

Tends to happen after you run into thirteen armed guards.

[Despite the implication there, he's still smiling.]

[And because Fuji is Fuji and doesn't have a tendency to show sympathy the same way as normal people do, he smiles as well.]

That's too bad. [Helpfully--] But at least you can say it was an interesting end. Not a lot of people have that going for them.

Interesting?

[Not like he was a decoy for someone to escape with a girl who could kill someone by writing their name on a piece of paper from a notebook that technically belonged to a Death God or anything.]

You could say that. Guess my only regret is not knowing if my friend made it out or now. But who knows? I might get lucky and he could show up here.

[He pauses a bit to think over his own statement.]

He'd be good with a fire type.

Or a water type. [Whimsical.] They do say opposites attract, or something like that.

You could always name a pokemon after your friend while you're here. When he gets here, if he gets here, it might make for an interesting discussion.

A water type, huh? Heh. Actually, I think a Gyarados would be pretty fitting for someone like him. Impatient, short temper and hellbent determination.

[Matt idly looks down at the pokeball attached to his belt.]

Yeah, I might name one after him. But the one I started out with won't cut it. I'll probably keep my eye out though.

Heh, he sounds like a charming guy.

[bit wry. just a tad.]

But since you brought it up -- out of curiosity, which one did you start with?

He definitely takes some getting used to, but he was my closest friend since we were kids.

[And he removes the ball from it's secure position to let out his new partner. The Porygon looks at the pokegear curiously.]

Pretty fitting for me in my opinion. He'll be strong at the very least.

[Not that the thing has a gender, but Matt's just going with the default.]
