[The video switches on to show Matt sitting on a bed at the inn, three Pokéballs being shuffled between his hands in a idle manner.]So I'm just curious, has anyone celebrated a birthday in this place before? I know with the time fluctuation between our worlds and this one, it can get confusing. Any thoughts on the matter? Say do you consider your ( Read more... )

[Subaru looks baffled for a moment.] Birthdays hadn't even occured to me... I suppose-- I'll just celebrate it on the same day that it would be normally.

Yeah, that's what I was considering too. Might get too confusing otherwise.

It will just be a year that's a few months short.

Yeah. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones really, mine would only be off by a few days. I was just curious how other people thought about it.

Is your birthday soon?

It wouldn't make sense to try and translate how many days you have left and redo your birthday, I don't think. I would never be able to keep track of it.

It's today actually. When I arrived here it was about two or three days behind the date it was last in my world, and that's what got me thinking.

Oh! Happy birthday, in which case.

Thanks. I've never really been one to celebrate it too often. One of the few times I actually remember instead of letting it pass me by, and that's only because I got thrown into this world and made more aware of the passing days.

I only celebrate it for-- my sister. She was born on the same day.

Twins? Or just a coincidence? Never really knew my family, so it's been up to me for the most part to keep track of things. Needless to say, spending all my time with computers and video games caused me to be pretty shitty when it came to dates.

Twins. She... would always make sure we celebrated, so I'll still do it here, I think.

Yeah, I can see why that would get you to make sure to celebrate it. Grew up in an orphanage myself, and only two of the kids there even knew when my birthday was. So it was a hit and miss thing. Sometimes I'd remember and bug the owner for a new game, sometimes my friend would remind me or I'd just forget entirely and bug the owner half way into the month for a late gift. It was all the same to me really.

Oh-- I see. [an orphanage? Subaru can barely imagine that.] My sister would always make cake and we would go see the family; she'd insist on buying a new dress for the occasion.

Sounds like a fun time, your sister must have been adorable.

Anytime I ever had a cake, it was always halfway an excuse for my best friend to get the chance to splurge on chocolate cake without having to share much. Normally it'd be unfair to the other kids, but since the other kids didn't really like me we had the whole cake to just the two of us.

She was.

Ah... well, at least you still got cake out of it. [Subaru smiles a little bit.] That was one of my favorite parts.

It was my friend's favorite part. Personally, I preferred the free video game. Oh yeah, name's Matt by the way.
