Well, as I've been planning to do for quite a while I decided last night to let Thomas go outside again. He was an outdoor cat once and he loved it. I was waiting until Herc left so he wouldn't be jealous. What I hadn't been sure I was going to do was let Ifer out, well I did.
It was right about sunset when I let the boys out and they took it slow at first. I went to the bathroom and came back and they had dissappeared. *shrugs* They're cats, I trust em. Anyway, it was eventually time for bed and neither of them had come home yet so I went out and called. Thomas came running, Ifer was nowhere to be seen.
I took the laptop to bed to dink around with pictures while I waited. After a while I went back out and called again, this time Thomas went back out. Finally I was really ready for bed so I went back out and called again, this time I heard meows so I stayed out and called off and on for a little while. Didn't take too long before a bunny jumps out of the bushes and Smokey (mom's cat who had come out with me this time) gave chase. He's got stubby legs though so he didn't catch it. Just as the bunny bolted back into the bushes, Thomas comes running out all fluffed up scared to death. (yes, my cat is scared of a bunny, he had the same reaction to a baby mouse being tossed at him...)
Only a minute or so after that I see Ifer come out of the bushes down in the neighbor's yard before darting back into the bushes. I keep calling and then I hear more noise from over behind the fence (the fence is what the bushes grow on btw) and after a minute I see this young male deer walking straight towards me accompanied a moment later by a little black shadow! The deer kept walking towards me for a while, till it was nearly even with me but on the other side of the fence, and with it came Ifer. At one point the deer reached down his nose to sniff at Ifer and the goofy cat sniffed back, not quite touching noses. After that Ifer went about two feet away and flopped on the ground! My dipshit kitty was playing with a deer! No wonder he didn't want to come in hehe. Eventually he made like he was going to come in but then decided against it and I haven't seen or heard from him since, little turkey.
Skip keeps telling me not to worry but I can't help it. He's my baby and there are owls and coyotes out and about at night and hawks during the day. If he weighed 20lbs like Thomas or had been an outdoor kitty more than the first few weeks of his life I don't think I'd have a problem. *shrugs* He'll come home when he's ready.
