I just got this in a forward from my former Spanish professor and OMG this is AWESOME! It's a 160-year-old musket that someone found in a hollow log along the Yellowstone River by Glendive, I think in February or possibly January. It was covered in bear or buffalo grease, which is why it's in such excellent condition.
Oh, and Glendive is in Montana LOL. It's a small town close to the North Dakota border.
I'm a total history buff so I'm absolutely fascinated by this! I wanna know who put it there, why he put it there, and what happened to him.
As soon as I read about this, I remembered reading Yellowstone Kelly's memoirs and I think I remember him telling a story about when he and another guy were in a fight with some Indians and he hid a rifle and later went back and couldn't find it. But I dunno if I'm just pulling that out of thin air or not LOL. But it would be the right time period! How cool would that be if it turned out to be his.
And wow, just like that good mood gone. Yay for being 25 and living with your goddamn parents and having them on your ass about fucking EVERYTHING all the goddamn time. I hate my motherfucking life.
