I really enjoyed this. I like protective Sam, and I'm glad he convinced John to learn ASL. Do you have any plans to make this into a 'verse? :)

Someone at ff.net suggested continuing with it, too. I'm honored that you think it's 'verse material! I hadn't even thought about it, but it would be very easy to do a verse, so I think it's safe to say "probably". :) I had a couple ideas last night while I was lying awake in bed - I'll have to write them now!

But yeah, it's official. I am gonna do a verse. :) And prodding is a good thing LOL - without it, I probably wouldn't have even thought about making this a verse! No promises for when I'll get it done since I've got my bigbang fic to do still, but there WILL be more.

Yay! Deaf Dean! I'm always both thrilled and terrified by deaf Dean because I DO know ASL and I volunteered with deaf kids and it's oh so easy to screw that story up. You did a very good job though! You didn't focus on the details which helped. A lot of people go to the dictionary and start describing signs which are often in an English grammarical structure instead of acknowledging that ASL has it's OWN grammar. Since you used John as the POV character though, you by passed all of this. *g*

Lip reading is INCREDIBLY difficult though and even people who are very good at it can generally only make out 80% of what's being said. John used basic concepts and vocabulary though so I can handwave Dean either getting the gist of what he's saying, or just pretending he understands when he really has no idea. Lip reading takes years and years to become proficient.

Lori! Yay - you approved! I remembered your post about deaf!Dean and ASL in general, so I did a run through before I posted. I'm glad you think I handled it okay! *grin*

I can't even imagine lip reading - I can see why it takes years to learn well! Since Dean already thinks John doesn't care enough to learn to talk with him, I think he'd do the pretending thing when he doesn't understand and then just ask Sam when John's not looking. :) Dean's a smart kid, though, and he got the gist today. LOL
