Some quotes about church and state, sissified men, womens rights, homosexuality, and the coming of Armageddon

Seriously, these are frankly amazing. Can a Christian out there please tell me which bits of the bible i should be looking at that teaches such vicious hate?

Isn't that one of the common factors in any religion, political affiliation, special interest, etc.... that what I believe is right, and everyone else is wrong?

I remember reading in a magazine a description for the different types of religions based on how much they try to draw others in and how much they proclaim to be the only correct religion. Forgive me for not remembering the terms that they used, but I still had to mention it. Maybe someone else knows the terms. Some religions don't "preach" at all. Some care more about gaining peace in one's life than dealing with all of the after-death nonsense.

...it is the listeners that must, through education, understanding, and even prayer, interpret what their version of the truth is... based on the knowledge presented.

Very good point. After all, from a Theory of Mind standpoint, one can never really and truly know what another person's "vision" was or why the other person felt that it really was a vision and not a hallucination. Jeanne d'Arc believed that saints spoke to her, but others thought she was making it up or at worse she was just insane. But since you can never know what another person is really sensing you can never know what that perception feels like. I can say that God spoke to me right after being in a car wreck, but I have no proof to give you. Even a devout Christian may not believe me.

I think that is the number one reason that I feel that beliefs are and always should be individualized rather than religionized.

And this is what is often referred to as a 'Personal God'. A relationship of faith and love between God and the believer. The idea of denominations within the Christian community is simply a gathering of like interpreting believers. In regards to interpretation, I cannot see how any civil human being can tell me that the jest of the 10 Commandments is a bad concept, or that the Golden Rule is a bad idea.

By the way, I added you to my friends list.... I have read your context on this thread, and like your debates and rebuttals! I hope you don't mind...

I don't mind at all.

I had to laugh at you comment though. I'm quite sure that you meant 'gist' rather than 'jest'. Interesting little faux pax.

I really have no problem with "like interpreting believers" organizing to discuss their beliefs, but I dislike organized religion as a whole. I think that somewhere between the two the Personal God ceases to be personal and intolerance of other's Personal Gods ends. Christianity leaves no room for alternative beliefs yet it is not even the oldest religion. I keep thinking that if what the Bible says is true, then the stories of Adam and Eve and everything else that followed would have been passed down through the ages and there would never have been alternative beliefs to begin with.

Regarding the Ten Commandments and Golden Rule, this is why my mother defines herself as one who follows Christian principles but is not a Christian.
