SORRY!
Hugely sorry but have been caught up in so many things...

rough guide or what happened to follow....

-----
So with adventure in my heart and excitement in my blood i continued the path of good stalker / rabid fan and went down to Cronulla (which is an area i haven't been for about 8 years) following the "hey, y'aaaaaallll should come to this restaaauraaunt for dinner with me on Wednesday" poltz-invitation.

Step one was researching where the restaurant actually was, given that the rambling instructions from Mr P weren't all that helpful. Ten minutes on one of the most useless websites on the planet - yellowpages.com.au eventually yielded me a few mexican places in the area that seemed to fit the bill.

Taking a punt on the most likely, "El Sol tortilleria" (I thought Poltz had initially said a seafood place "Sole" or "Soul" or something along those lines - lesson for all of you - beware taking vague drunken instructions from a vague drunken man on a vague drunken midnight), i called them and the man who answered greeted my question "Hi, is this the restaurant, that madman Poltz was raving about at the Bridge?" with depression.
"yes" he sighed.

-----

Arrived at the restaurant after getting lost and wandering the streets of cronulla for an hour before finding an oporto's and asking for help. Of course, i wasn't as stupid as many people assume and the evidence was suggesting - yellowpages.com.au had the wrong bloody address and once i showed that to the lovely Tiffany (our beer merchant for the night), she was very concerned. "We haven't been there for two years," she explained.

Nonetheless she did the smartest thing possible and offered me a beer. She asked if i'd come down to see that singer guy, she didn't know too much about him. I sat around with her for a while chatting while she worked. Eventually i was given some massive and crunchy corn chips (and very homemadey. i discovered that the Nokia 3310 knows how to spell that word which makes no sense. I want answers dammit!!!) and a little salsa as a free appetiser, and decided on Chilli-con-questo (i think) which translates cheese-me-til-my-head-explodes, i believe. I was rendered unable to eat further on the arrival of this meal and let me assure you it was fantastic, but i was stuffed

More beer, chatting with other very nice smokers outside.
Changing beers from Corona to Pacifico on recommendation from Tiffany claiming that Pacifico was like Crown to Corona's VB

-----

Steve arrives with Deano the owner and Danielle a singer from Melbourne. I flag him down outside and talk for a while before he heads inside.

As instructed i deliver greetings from the gang (i can't remember what i was told to tell him now, but i wrote it down on my wrist at the time so i told him the right thing) HE EXPRESSED GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT IN THE WEAKNESS OF THE SYDNEY GIRLS WHO WOULDN'T COME TO BACK ME UP ON THIS ADVENTURE AND LEFT ME TO THE WILDS OF CRONULLA (ok so i'm fictionalising here but it's what he should have said :P)

-----

I finished the latest round of smoking and went to see what could be done about my beer since it was empty. Sat about at the counter for a while and drank more beer with Poltz & Danielle
Their dinner arrives, and we move to a table nearby. They commence eating and Danielle tries to offer me some of her food. I am unable to eat so retreat outside for more nicotine.
-----

i spend more time with the locals who are all fine people.

------

I return from smoking and Poltz has broken out the guitar and is fiddling around.

He ended up playing for about two hours. from about nine thirty, onwards. Once he finished up most of the crowd headed on and and Deano broke out some tequila shots, and more beers as it became the "Amazing Deano Request Hour" (or while in any case).

Steve turned round and thanked everyone for coming out to see him and thanked Deano for the food, and asked him to pick some songs, so he played on for a while and told a couple of stories for including the too-ridiculous-to-not-be-true-david-cassidy-story

After that the restaurant was pretty much cleared and the few remaining people sat down for a final beer or two. Deano called a taxi driver friend to ship the muso's back to the city, and i hung about because the nightride wasn't due for about 40 minutes.

Danielle insisted that i go back to the city with them in the cab, and once Poltz understood where i was going he agreed.

The cab ride to the Menzies consisted of us listening to the radio, singing along and continuing to talk rubbish.

He did mention that the Basement was going to do a DVD of the show (of course they were), and it was going to be shortened and he wanted to make a Steve Poltz uncut and uncensored DVD. Whether he will ever get around to this - who knows...

We all piled out at the Menzies and given that he had to fly off to Vietnam the next day, and Danielle had to go back to Melbourne, and i had to pretend to be diligent and go to work, we called it a night at a 0130 wrap up.

Steve thanked me for coming out to "Crenella" and for being an "amaaaaazing cool guy" (just imagine the drawl) and hanging out with him during his tour and stuff, Danielle told me to give her a ring next time i was in Melbourne, and the taxi driver offered me a cheap deal back home.

We parted company following a manly embrace and promises to be in touch when he comes back in March.

So that's pretty much what you all missed :P

Once again many apologies for not getting in touch sooner, but finding the time to write all this in the last couple of weeks has been very difficult....

Cheers.

PS my friends in 'Jigzag' are playing at the Harp on Saturday night and anyone who wants come come along is very welcome and it would be great to meet more of you Poltz people. I might even tell you some of the secret stuff that went on with Poltz's night in "Crenalla" (if i can think of any)
