There is something about Harry and Perry that just makes them special. Well, okay, there are lots of things that make the two of them special. Not only the obvious ones, I mean, come on, but… Wait a sec. I’m storming off, ain’t I? Great. Quite obvious I learned not only narrating but writing from Harry, eh? So, where to start then… Guess an introduction would be appropriate.

I’m Harmony Faith Lane, aspiring actress extraordinaire, but for the time being I’m mainly a waitress - like a couple thousands of other ‘aspiring actresses extraordinaire’ here in LA, the city of dreams and hopes and failures. Also, on very rare occasions, I ‘work’ as typist, secretary, piece of decoration or whatsoever for private eye Perry van Shrike and my best friend since High school days, Harry Lockhart, who happens to be Perry’s respective partner.

Which brings me to my point (if I even have one, that is), Harry and Perry again. Harry and I have been friends throughout our childhood days and high school, back in the days in the eighties, before I left Embry and Indiana for good and headed off to LA. And when I say best friend, I mean best friend. No, not fuck-buddy, no, not boyfriend, no, not the guy into whose pants I just couldn’t get, no, simply best friend. The one I told everything, whenever I was fed up with the world, whatever boy I had just spent a night with and not seen since then.

All in all, being my best friend, Harry was probably the only guy at my high that I did never sleep with. Yeah, never slept with him - up to this day. Even after he helped solving the case of my dead sister, even after numerous attempts, we never managed to get together romantically, if you catch my drift. I mean, we tried and all. More often than not.

Of course, that leaves me wondering why exactly we never scored. One of the reasons is, as astounding as this might sound, that Harry is simply a ‘good guy’. He’s got principles, morals and a good heart. And trust me when I say those are truly rare in LA! Harry’s pretty much the only one like that I’ve ever met, and I’ve met a lot of guys. A fucking lot of guys. A lot of guys I fucked, even, but I’m drifting off again.

I’ll try once more to get straight to the point, like Perry would. Oh, what a fucking bad pun, sorry, but you probably don’t get that one either until I finally go on about what I’ve been ranting about for quite a while already.

At the moment, I’m sitting in a little café across from Perry and Harry, celebrating the successful conclusion of another case. Or rather, we’re sitting around having lunch because we really have nothing else to do. Not even Perry, though he would never admit that. Because Perry’s a tough guy, with the whole holier than thou attitude and all. Completely different from Harry. Hard to believe that he’s the gay one out of the two, eh? I guess that’s what makes those two such a good team. And yes, they are a good team, balancing each other out perfectly. Which in essence is my point.

They are perfect together - perfect for each other. Guess what another reason is Harry and I never got lucky? Whenever we were about to, stripped naked already, a call came or Perry practically stormed in, a new case ready, needing immediate attention. And guess what? Even though it’s me lying naked on the bed, Harry would grab the nearest pair of pants and shirt and run after Perry. (This once led to Harry trying my shirt on instead of his, but that story is left for another occasion.)

Now only they don’t see that, how they both would drop everything - even me - at the blink of a moment to go after the other. Of course, if Perry were a stereotypical gay guy, it’d be a lot easier to judge, but even though he isn’t, I’d bet my last shirt that he’s got the hots for Harry. And while I sit here, listening to them talk and occasionally insulting each other, watching them touch each other when not necessary at all, I’d bet my underwear as well that Harry feels for Perry just the same way. Yeah, even though he’s the ‘straight’ one.

I know, I know, that sounds crazy, right? But… just look at them. Now Perry’s pouring the water into a glass for Harry, and Harry’s jokingly, nearly tenderly, nudging Perry’s shoulder and… Why, in god’s name, am I the only one seeing this? Well, I think I’m really a good actress. Because up to this day, I haven’t yet shown that I am, indeed, just the slightest little bit jealous - he’s my Harry after all!

Still, hey, I’ve seen them kiss. And no matter how pissed I was that day, in retrospective, it was kinda hot. And having my loveable best friend dating a sleek and perfect private eye, always having an eye on him, that doesn’t sound too bad either. At least finally someone would take care of Harry, no? The only thing left now is to give ‘em a little push in the right direction. And I will gladly do that.

Well, right after I’ve installed a webcam in their bedrooms, that is.
