Assassin's Creed III... My Thoughts..

This month we had first rumors and leaked pictures from a gaming magazine for the next major Assassin's Creed sequel coming out. Apparently Desmond now has a relative during the American revolution that is part English part Native American from the "Mohawk" clan. His name is Ratohnhaké:ton (pronounced Ra-doon-ha-gay-doo') aka Connor.

So now instead of being in renaissance italy and doing free running from building to building there we have a new character somewhere out east doing "tree running" instead.

There seems to be more open spaces in the setting they are bringing the franchise to although there was also quite a bit of open space to traverse in the previous games too like the countryside which you ride your horse on. But this time there's forests that you can free run leaping from branch to branch as well as towns.

Personally I felt like having Desmond suddenly have native american ancestors is a bit of a stretch as they never mentioned it before and as far as I knew he was just of italian descent... he even looked exactly like his italian ancestors. But I suppose sometimes you never know. My family identifies as spanish\mexican but we do have native american blood in our family as well.

It seems like his tomahawk replaces the hidden blade especially from hearing the sound effect it makes on the trailer. He also has a bow and a flintlock pistols it seems. It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up to the previous games.

Something that's interesting to me is how they are saying he will be working for such figures as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, etc. however these guys are Free Masons. In the fictional world of Assassin's Creed the main villians are the Knights Templar so one would think those people would be in league with them.

Also as a native american the protagonist probably wouldn't side with them. A majority of native americans during that time sided with the british. I mean.. they where having to deal with how they are going to hold onto their homelands against encroaching european settlements. But he could have been a part of those groups partially assimilated into american colonies.

However, they are saying it'll be more shades of grey who is bad and who is good and there may be some plot twists there so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Also with Prey losing its native american protaganist it's nice seeing another game instead gaining one.

Some people commented that it seems like they are having a quick release cycle except the team that did AC2 didn't work on Brotherhood or Revelations. Seperate teams worked on those and the team that is making AC3 has been working on it for three years. I guess they started working on it after having completed AC2 and handing off work on the expansion stories to other teams.

I've yet to play Revelations by the way since it hasn't come to the Mac yet. I've speculated that it could be because they are wanting to release a complete edition with all the DLC. But to me it's like.. which will end up coming out first? AC3 or ACR for Mac?
