Bring Out Your Dead...

A friend sent me a link to this article at Appleinsider that says that insiders are saying that the Mac Mini is still alive and kicking and is going to be refreshed. She sent it with the comment :

mini: "I'm not dead yet!"

Which made me think of this:

Cart Master: Bring out your dead!
[clang]
Bring out your dead!
[clang]
Bring out your dead!
[clang]

Apple Blogs: Here's one.

Cart Master: Ninepence.

Mac Mini: I'm not dead!

Cart Master: What?

Apple Blogs: Nothing. Here's your ninepence.

Mac Mini: I'm not dead!

Cart Master: 'Ere. He says he's not dead!

Apple Blogs: Yes, he is.

Mac Mini: I'm not!

Cart Master: He isn't?

Apple Blogs: Well, he will be soon. He's very ill.

Mac Mini: I'm getting better!

Apple Blogs: No, you're not. You'll be stone dead in a moment.

Cart Master: Oh, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.

Mac Mini: I don't want to go on the cart!

Apple Blogs: Oh, don't be such a baby.

Cart Master: I can't take him.

Mac Mini: I feel fine!

It's also pretty amazing to see what people are doing with Mac Minis beyond what Apple originally intended them for. Sometimes something has more applications than where dreamed of when they where created. Also the fact that refurby models sell out fast and even old models sold on ebay fetch quite a bit of money makes me feel a little better about my Mac Mini even though it has gotten long in the tooth. I know I'll have uses for it even after I upgrade.

Also if they did get rid of it that would mean there would no longer be any Macs under $900 which wouldn't be a good thing in this day and age. If and when they do update it I would like to see them update the case too.. the current one looks fine although I think it's about time for a redesign... come on Jony Ive!

One last thing. If they update the Mac Mini to have displayport they are going to have to come out with adaptors so one can hook them up to HDMI, DVI, VGA, etc. (well, at least HDMI and DVI. VGA would still be important for the BYOKDM (bring your own keyboard display & mouse) crowd though.

apple, monty python, mac mini
