x-post from G+:
Earlier this summer, I helped a friend out doing beta reading and a little editing (what I had time for) of two novels he was working on. Sadly, one of the novels was abandoned somewhere over 40k words. I have hope that he'll pick the concept back up and write it in to something he likes.
But the second one made it to the finish line. Yay!
So, if you're a fan of scifi/fantasy crossover with a Whedon-esque plot flair (I know, I know, not everyone is a Joss Whedon fan. :)), give a prod at this book. Read the blurb and see if it makes you want to read more. If it does? Consider supporting a young lawyer trying to find his soul by turning to creative writing. =)
It can be found on Amazon as well as Smashwords if you don't want to support/don't like Amazon.
Edit: Smashwords has a 20% sample of the book, starting from the beginning. Amazon lacks a preview. John isn't sure how to fix it.
Amazon, it can be found here:

Overall, I enjoyed it. It feels like a novel aimed at young adults though, just so you're forewarned..
