xposted from my Google Buzz feed.
Yes, yes, I know it's been ages since I've posted a REAL post here. So here's one to chew on.
Last night as I was sitting in the laundry room, waiting on the washers to finish their cycle, I was reading through the Pulse news feed on my phone. One of the feeds is Top Stories in Food which sucks stories from various news sites. One article that came up was: Save money on groceries by shopping at ethnic grocery stores.
The article warned to stick to the staple foods for the most savings, as things not normally found in the cultural cuisine the store caters to, would cost more than at a normal American grocer. It was an interesting article and informative, but nothing I didn't already know from shopping at places like Mai Tahn (sp?) Vietnamese market and Fiesta, both up in Austin.
It did make my mind start wandering off on a tangent thought: What the heck are the staple foods of American cuisine?
Well?
Things I can think of: Elbow pasta, bread, milk, cheese, ground beef, chicken...
And then I realize some of the potentials on the list would be regional.
So, WTF are the staple foods of an American diet?
