Wow. What an incredibly INTENSE weekend. I had NO IDEA how DEEP and impacting this weekend would be.
Our speaker for the weekend was John Hatfield. He had some incredibly insightful things to share about his life and his relationship with his father. I think everyone who went to the conference could relate with his stuggles in one form or another. Wow, he was intensely personal with his hurts and the healing process still continuing in his life.
John Hatfield shared a really great message about the parable of the prodigal son. He was REALLY able to express the deep love of the father for the son. What was really good about his message was how he was able to show not only how the younger son needed grace, but how the older son needed it JUST as much as the younger. =) That was a REALLY GOOD point.
I went to Ken and Cheri's "Freedom from Performance" workshop. It was a GREAT workshop, which totally spoke into my life. The most significant thing that I learned in that workshop was the deeper issue underneath performing for other people. I realize what I need to understand better is the whole idea of God's grace, and how that frees me from feeling the need to perform. This applies bigger than feeling the need to perform for others, but even feeling the need to perform for God. God's grace set me free so that I wouldn't have to work for my salvation, and if I'm doing good things to please God, then I'm missing the whole point of why Christ died on the cross for me. Doing good things isn't TO please God, it's a response. It's a result of appreciating what Christ did for me on that cross. =)
