recovering

i got home from las vegas yesterday morning about 6:45am and went to work at 10:30am. i was mored tired yesterday than i think i ever have been. the weekend in las vegas was pretty hectic, full of drinking, smoking, laughing, but not full of sleep. so, today i am home sick, with a kind of pseudo flu. i feel sick enough to not feel guilty about not being at work, but not sick enough to whine about it. :)

so, i had a lot of fun in vegas. i was surprised how much i liked it. the weekend was packed. i had such a good time because we did things other than hang-out in the casinos, though there are slot machines everywhere (even in 7eleven). as well, all restaurants in the hotels are directly attached to the casino. so, i guess the line between casino and not casino is blurred.  we went to a cirque du soleil show as well as a classic and cheesy magic show called "Xtreme magic with Dirk Arthur." it was awful, but also amazing. we got out of vegas and went to the desert (it was really cold). we went karaokeing and it was awesome. the bar was called 'ellis island' and it seemed like a place where the people who work on the strip hang out. we ordered seven drinks and it only cost $15. wtf? after eating out for every meal, this was a real treat. though the cheapness of the drinks was erased by the fact that we had to bribe the karaoke dj in order for our song to come up...weird.

a few other random things i did include going to a shooting range and a strip club. these are now on my "i never need to do that again" list. the shooting range was pretty terrifying. the guy in the lane next to us had just purchased the largest hand gun on the market. it made such a loud noise when it fired and the bullets were HUGE. he also shot in fast succession, which made things more frightening. i haven't really been exposed to guns in such a way and i can say that being exposed to them made guns seem less normal rather than more.

i couldn't imagine living in las vegas- basically the biggest tourist spot in the world. while it's fun to drink in public (including shops while browsing), it would be so weird to see all these tourists drinking everywhere and picking up porn (there are porn newspapers, ads, and people pushing call girl services all over the place). but i don't know how much regular las vegas residents go to the strip unless they work there.

interestingly, the democratic delegate convention happened at one of the hotels over the weekend and there was a stampede. a stampede! i guess so many people showed up and there wasn't room, so they locked people out of the vote. scandal. people were pissed and i guess tried to storm the room. they remained locked out. i think something will be done to rectify this, but i'm not sure what that will be.
