Decisions

I'm just shy of a year at my current position. I'm doing IT Support / Help Desk. It's challenging. It's stressful. More days than not I don't like my team mates. I absolutely adore my manager. There's a chance I might get a team lead position once it opens in July. If it opens. It's not an actual position right now. We're overworked. We have 4 techs supporting 600 people, with about 100 of them remote. We're under appreciated. And things are going to get worse before they get better. When they do get better, I think they'll be awesome. I could be team lead. We would have a full time help desk person. Product Support would have another person so I wouldn't have to back them up anymore.

Our IT Asset Administrator Carol left on Friday. She is an amazing lady. She handled purchasing, software license and hardware tracking, support contracts. All IT purchasing. I spoke with the manager for that, and he said he would consider me if I wanted to apply. He wanted someone with more of an IT background than Carol had, someone who could interpret geek...

It's very tempting. I'd have a smaller group of people I would support. I would not have the stress of dealing with broken computer. I would have to keep on top of my organizational skills. But at the same time I'd get to use my organizational skills.

Asset management is a good skill to have. It seems many companies have the Help Desk Manger doing asset mgmt. I could take the asset skills and my help desk experience and maybe get into mgmt from there. Or maybe I'll find I really like this and stay in purchasing and procurement.

I really have to think of this. Telling my Manager I'm applying for another position would make for an interesting relationship if I didn't get the position. But she can't promise me anything at this point. Then again, if she did offer me the lead, would I want it? This job would rock if my coworkers were replaced....
