It works better when I just make them have pr0n...

So, I was lazy on Wednesday night and fast-forwarded through all the unsub parts of Criminal Minds when I first watched the episode, and I just rewatched it all the way through and although I know there discussions of how the unsub was portrayed out there, my viewing was probably just enough informed by them that I'm unwilling to engage.

But Other Spoilery Things... )

Re: #5. Well, that makes sense. First crack at a real script and all. I still don't care for the message this episode sent - as cereta and I were mentioning here. And we are so on the same page IRT #3.

Yeah, that was the conversation I was referencing in the first paragraph. I don't know if I went into the viewing already trying to push against it, so I didn't want to discuss it, but I didn't actually get that message. So, you know, could be for any number of reasons.

I'm not entirely sure why I posted on this episode except for that, though - none of the episodes, including this one, since 100 have really been standout. Last season they had a craptacular dip through Bloodlines and Cold Comfort, and then came out with three strong episodes - Zoe's Reprise, Demonology, and Omnivore. And okay, I cheerfully admit that Demonology was a terrible plot in so very many ways, but it did a good job of letting the cast bring it. We saw a little bit of that in Slave of Duty, but only in the bookends. The only bit of interest in the actual case came from Emily going a little crazy on Joe Belser at the end.

Ah, okay. You're absolutely right in not wanting to engage in discussion if you didn't see that message.

I remember the dip last year - though I like "Public Enemy" for being a Rossi-episode-in-disguise the same way I like "Masterpiece" for being a Rossi-episode-in-disguise - and they did indeed redeem themselves. I'd also include "Pleasure is My Business" in that S4 lineup, because it's so quietly and perfectly a Hotch episode, setting up "Omnivore". I'm hoping they're going to bust out with some solid, character-driven, continuity eps.

Yeah, it's not that I'm not sympathetic to that interpretation, but it seems less like a message (intended or otherwise) than a series of inept writing and directing (except apparently no one directed this ep?) choices. Also, because of the way I read the discussion, I kind of went into the episode expecting him to be treated like Normal Hill (Mitch Pileggi at the end of Normal) and actually found him squickier than the guy in In Name and Blood. And since I don't know if that was from the discussion or my personal "OMGSOCRAZY" triggers, I'm not sure I can be properly articulate about it ( ... )

4. "But, but! Wait! No! Are you KIDDING?! For the love of pete just FIVE MINUTES of research!!" *twitch*

Also, I find it highly useful to ff through the unsub bits of most episodes...:)

My head used to explode at Scott Whatever His Name Is would try to tell me Barbara Gordon (5'10" Barbara Gordon...) was too short to be an FBI agent. WTF, there's no height floor to be an FBI agent - I found that info in five minutes. He was such a paste-eater. Anyway.

But yeah, I didn't even learn about the adoption thing in law school. It's just...no. OMG, no. *flails*

I find that I get really bored by eps that aren't about hardcore serial killers. We need more eps like the Frank eps.

Man, I'm kind of sorry Frank offed himself. Granted, he wouldn't be nearly as awesome with Rossi as he was with Gideon, but having him chained up ala Hannibal Lector and making Gideon go in to visit him once in a while would have rocked. Also, it's always more interesting when the team interacts with the killers instead of just blows them up or whatever. (I was so convinced this dude had his truck rigged to explode that I keep having to remind myself that he used a gun at the end. Oops?)

Interesting points, esp #3, didn't think about it before.

I liked Rossi calling Emily, too. :D

It's the Batman fan in me - people have personal tragedies all the time. Not all of them decide the best way to deal with it is to dress up as a giant bat. Similarly, not everyone has a psychotic break and becomes a serial killer. :P I feel like the guy, at least, had to be a sociopath from the beginning. And the kid was just creepy. :P

My tin shipper hat is kind of ridiculous but I love it anyway! I am so glad you are onboard with me. :D

I had read this and just never went back to comment! Because I am a doofus.

I do agree Emily feels the pull towards teenage girls...but please don't make me abandon my Dave/Emily baby fantasy. *clings to fantasy*

But she has shown interest/empathy for more than one abandoned girl. Also, with the exception of Sofia, it seems like every time there is a child, Emily is the one dealing with the child...it seems the writers want the viewers to connect the image of Emily with children, almost as a Madonna figure.
