I had to contemplate whether to use this icon, which got across the message of this post, with one that actually had Emily Prentiss in it, because she is also the message of this post. (If she wasn't going to be Zatanna, she would actually make a pretty good Huntress. I'm just saying.)

So anyway, mingsmommy has posted right after I made a rec post twice now, so I'm embarrassing her with her own rec post.

In the last post, I said that the early CM eps send the message that fighting back gives you a better chance at survival. Later eps, though, particularly season 3's The Crossing, says that you have to be smart about it. In that ep, we saw Emily and JJ tell the target of a stalker how to survive an abduction by the guy who has been stalking her, and when it happened, that woman kept her head, and played along, getting him out in the open, and enabling the team to apprehend him.

Since then we've seen other hints of this lesson, we've seen Emily getting frustrated when people aren't smart, and in 5x11: Slave to Duty, we saw her get really upset about the Unsub making the girls play along.

So mingsmommy wrote Scars as a followup to that, another story of Emily's past that isn't easy to hear about or talk about. She warns for triggery or upsetting content, but it's beautifully told with Emily's inner strength and adaptability taking center stage. The stories mingsmommy tells always remind me of the saying about women are like willows, and how they bend and adapt to their surroundings, and how the are ultimately stronger than men, who are like oaks, and can be shattered at the trunk.

Also, there's, you know, hot pr0n for those of you who just want some entertainment from their internet. ;) There is nothing wrong with that.

This, however, seems like the correct entry for that meme where you give me a female character and I tell you why she's incredibly awesome. I don't know what the actual wording is. I don't need it. I can do a meme without cut and paste. \o/

fic recs, recs, when we were awesome, criminal minds
