Friday Night Lights 1x18: Extended Familes
New plotlines ahoy!
TimRiggins! and the built-in family:
Does anyone else see this train wreck coming? Single mother, vaguely annoying, yet worshipful child, and it's a suddenly helpful Tim Riggins! Actually, this is the kind of slow-build relationship I would love to see work out. The more I think about it, the better this woman (name? I cannot remember names) seems for Tim. How good Tim is for her makes me cringe a lot. I like that she's older, calmer, and much more mature than Tim. But she's obviously had a crappy luck with men and Tim doesn't have the greatest track record. Still, if it makes Tim get his act together, I will watch happily and brace for the fallout.
Waverly and the bi-polar disorder:
Speaking of train wrecks. Someone, I think maybe
genx88, theorized that she had gone off somewhere to have a baby or an abortion, but I think I like this one even better. It's more durable as a storyline at least, it's real, and if FNL holds solid as well as it has in other storylines, I think it'll be an important presentation. When her father started asking Smash to tell him if her personality changed, I thought maybe she'd taking illegal drugs and her father was afraid she was relapsing. I hope Smash does talk to the reverend, now that he's seen the other side of the coin.
Coach and Buddy and TMU:
I don't actually think Coach will leave - he'll decide his kids need him, etc. Which less the point than OMG, Buddy Garrity sucks beyond the telling of it. He seems terribly wrong about his priorities, announcing that he holds football over his wife, but I'm wondering if he's just reacting to the horror of having to answer for his sins or if he's just loved Dillon football for so much and for so long, he doesn't trust anything the way he relies on football. I have not seen the first 3 episodes (I know! but now I can catch up over spring break!) but is this Buddy's first wife? She's very young and pretty, and it wouldn't surprise me if she's Lyla's stepmother and the mother of the other two kids. But I never heard one way or the other.
Anyway, Buddy's priorities being out of whack aren't a surprise either, but that he did the rubbing on Coach's notepad and spied on Coach, who was letting him stay in his house out of the goodness of his HEART, that's such a violation of trust. Coach should take the TMU job, throw Buddy out with a punch to the nose, and laugh all the way to the bank. But I bet he doesn't.
Tyra and Mrs. Coach:
Tyra actually called Mrs. Coach by her real last name and I was all, "huh?" because I was all primed for "Mrs. Coach." Anyway, yay for Mrs. Coach for listening and reconsidering and realizing that Tyra was just as hurt that Tami had banned her from Julie's life as Julie was upset. Tyra still has points from last week when she told Julie she didn't have to rush into sex with Matt, so I'm glad to see her being drawn back into the main plotlines.
In conclusion: Where was Smash's MOTHER??? Otherwise, practically perfect in every way.
Criminal Minds 2x18: Jones
Dude, Reid hates Emily even more than we do. Also, it's amusing to watch Accent!cop make eyes at JJ. It's very cute when he flirts. JJ is cute when she's jealous, too. :) Also, she's not wrong about the Pennsylvania culture - it's not impossible but I'd say it is pretty bold to buy a hot guy a drink. Okay, and who IS that guy? He's starting to look really familiar.
I'm totally grooving on this thing where it's a woman, for so many reasons relating to Jack the Ripper. (If I try to explain anything, I'll probably mis-speak somewhere and everyone will have to correct me, so let's just say it's kind of awesome karma.)
I am not down with the bad cop being named Smitty. (OMG, stupid jackass MEN, WTF?) But I AM down with JJ and Garcia being buddies. Girls have buddies, too. I know I do.
I hope the show never actually goes to relationships, but the 5 seconds of Morgan/Garcia had more chemistry than any other exchange so you know, listen up writers. It's there for you.
I *heart* the New Orleans cop so much. So much, in fact, I'm not even going to try to spell his name. Worlds o' awesome.
Reid: Is this the end of the possible-drug saga? I kind of hope so. But as good as Gideon's speech was, I don't know if that's enough, you know?
CSI: NY 3x17: Sleight Out of Hand
Oh, Mac made a funny. I love it when Mac tries to be funny because he usually succeeds and he seems to pleased with himself. Also, that was a very nice little bit where he was checking up on Danny. I'm...kind of wondering if it's foreshadowing to Danny missing some clue. I hope not; that would be a little too blatant.
OMG, LINDSEY! Being all skinny. I didn't think we were going to see her (or this storyline) until next season. (Okay, actually I didn't think we'd EVER see the storyline and she'd just show up next season with a shrug and a smile and a flat tummy.)
Way to SHOW SOME CLEAVAGE there, Stella.
Mac doing magic may be hotter than Mac with weapons, even though that crazy-lust look in his eyes is absent.
I can't believe this guy is just walking around on fire for four hours. With an audience. I would have wandered off after two, when it was pretty obvious that he wasn't going to incinerate or combust.
Ha, I was just wondering why Danny was keeled over yet and here he's hallucinating Lindsey.
Flack v. Hawkes is FABULOUS. I predict much fic forthcoming. (Not from me, although that's my preferred dynamic.)
Yes, that is that crazy-lust look I'm talking about. The "Set my arm on fire! Go on! Do it!" look.
The...what is Danny doing in Montana? What? I'm so confused. (Although not as confused as I am about how old she was when the shooting happened and why it took so long for this come to trial. Did it take them what, 7 years to capture the guy?)
DUDE! Mac shooting the water tank was AWESOME. Visually and also just with the bad-assitude of Mac knowing the woman needed oxygen NOW and there probably wasn't going to be a quick way to get her out without...doing what he did. Oh, competence, you old kink.
And okay, Danny and Lindsey are cute. Give me fic. Like, fic about how Lindsey takes Danny home and her mother insists on setting him up in the spare bedroom and feeding him Kraft Mac&Cheese or something that horrifies him. Er. Never mind.
In other news, still behind, still not surprised.
