Friday Night Lights 1x15: "Blinders"

I'm blah tonight so all observations are just beyond shallow.

POWDER PUFF FOOTBALL!!! I have a lot of love for this. Navy does a Powder Puff competition during Army-Navy week (internal, not against Army) and I only played the one year - some of those girls are BIG and MEAN and Powder Puff is a quick and easy way to get inadvertantly flattened. BUT, for this purpose? We got to watch Tyra lose it (she's so emotional and jealous and frustrated and she just channels it all onto Lyla who only kind of deserves it), and Coach go all adorably crazy teaching Julie that play, and the whole last play of the game. :) It was a little bit painful to watch the last run because women are often so awkward trying to carry a football. It's a combination of small hands, weak forearms, and breasts being in the way, paired with the size of the football. But I love, love, love, that they were out there playing so hard and being so determined and I was so happy to see Matt running down the sidelines next to Julie. For a few minutes, I thought maybe Matt and Tim were going to pick each other's exes to keep them from having to coach them, but having seen the end, I'm much more pleased with this setup.

Poor Jason and his intact frog and his teachers and classmates who just keep saying the exact wrong thing. I can't help but think that spun right, he could clean up in endorsements. He's good-looking, clean-cut, and how great would it look for Nike or Wheaties to have a "Athlete Before, Athlete After" campaign showing his new career of um...whatever this terrifying rugby sport is that he plays.

Coach and Mrs. Coach continue to be the hottest thingon my tv screen.

I still want to smack Smash but I approve of the civil disobedience at the end. (Also, loving Coach's response to it.) I...I think it's good and realistic of them to acknowledge the racism in small-town Texas. It was a nice observation of Waverly that no one wants to admit that it exists, like the elephant sitting in the corner of the room. This isn't my popcorn show so I'm not complaining or anything. We just talked a lot about this sort of thing in Professional Responsibility today and I'm a little worn out on the topic. Why can't we all just get along?
