reccea has been after me for a while to make a post explaining my Winnebago Theory of LJ and since miss_porcupine is compiling meta for Devoid of Con.txt, now seemed like a good time.

Nice theory.

I still get around on yahoo a bit, and I do like the concert hall feel of it, but I'm pretty much addicted to LJ.

Now I'm hungry. Thanks a lot. ;P

Also, hey, stranger! I think the mailing list will never go all the way out just because it does have advantages over LJ and that concert hall feel means that you keep a better peripheral awareness of people you may not speak with all the time. But LJ, it draws like a good beef hotdog, charred by the fire. ;)

I made myself hungry too, so I'm off to get lunch, but your icon is looking pretty tasty.

I love this meta. So much! I'm so glad you finally posted it.

They're a little less of a wienie roast and a little more of a condiment station.

Aw, thanks! I was...kinda reaching on the condiment station thing. *grin* But if you look at sga_newsletter or something, it's not a discussion forum. Just someplace to stop and pick up info. Like mustard. Or something. *facepalm*

Have fun with reccea and at con.txt! I'm getting into a car shortly and going to spend the weekend at my in-laws' cottage. I'll have to be sneaky about writing the slash in front of the 'rents. (Who am I kidding? There will be no writing accomplished this weekend.)

Thanks! I have Great Ideals about getting 7b done this weekend since I have reccea here and all, but she kind of laughed and me and well, yeah. There's no way.

I wish you continued sanity in the face of Family Events, though, and I am definitely looking forward to comparing notes when we all get back!

Hee, I love this, but it makes me think, as someone who pretty much only posts fic on her lj, that I'm like some crazy person just flinging sausages out of the window of her Winnebago!

*giggle* That's a great image, especially as late as it is, here. I think, though, that instead of just tossing them out the window, you're just holding specified roasts. More like a book club meeting than a general hangout. Because you don't just ping them off at the masses - you leave author's notes and answer comments and interact at your party.

I don't think that LJ is truly more customizable than MLs, just in different ways. I mean, if I friend an LJ I get a grab bag of content, kind of like a surprise sweets bag, to stick with the food metaphors. Some people are more likely to give out bags I like, but there's always going to some sweets like a sticky toffee that I don't care about at all, no matter that they may be of the great quality brand, but I still get those. Whereas with MLs you could choose your topic, but not who posts, so I get a bag of just one or two types of sweets I'm sure I love in principle, but the quality is just very diverse. Sure it may be all chocolate, but some is the cheap kind, not even using real cacao butter...

And now I want chocolate. :(
