I'm sick with a cold! Oh there are three great things that happened this week:
1. My father bought me a ticket back to singapore for my one week break (19th-25th Sept)
2. My end year ticket fiasco got settled at the travel agency (another long, boring and painful story)
3. I received a $2400 cheque from QUT today!
Anyway even though i'm terribly sniffly and stuffy headed and seriously behind in my homework, i think i should post some happy pictures from the past month:
3 weeks ago, i was unlucky enough to fall sick again (it's the thing where chris falls sick and i take care of him and then i fall sick and then he falls sick again...you get the picture) - so anyway, ostrichris very sweetly bought me a beautiful get well soon bouquet and a card to cheer my sniffly self up. A few days later, I was up and about again and the flowers provided me some inspiration for decorations on my Chocolate Marquise cake. The chocolate marquise cake is made out of hazelnut dacquoise layers and truffle mousse in between and the flowers are modelled with dark and white chocolate. It wasn't hard because I made it in winter and the chocolate didn't melt as easily as I thought it would. Anyway I made it for my friend's 21st birthday and the lighting looks weird cos the cake's actually in the fridge hhaha.
For some strange and gluttunous reason, the next week Ostrichris and i spent alot of dinners at Sunnybank (chinatown)... we ate at this new HK cafe which was just alright but very very reasonably priced for the quantity. Anyway, I bought a packet of green tea matcha powder and that weekend, I made cupcakes. These ones are vanilla bean cupcakes with green tea cream cheese frosting. Strange combi of east and west but it turned out pretty well. Though I think the vanilla bean cake was a bit too vanilla-ey... I soaked the bean in the milk for too long hahaha...
The week after that, bob, ostrichris, sean, shumin and i went to darra to eat the best Vietnamese Pho EVER. I ate and ate and ate and ate 2 bowls of mung bean dessert - mine and chris'. After that in our post lunch stupour, we ambled into the vietnamese market and walked around ... bob bought 2 packs of Vietnamese coffee and he told me that it was like the best coffee he ever had. I was really excited cos I felt like making the Vietnamese Coffee cake on this website i saw so i bought one box to experiment. Anyway that day spawned Vietnamese Coffee cupcake with Rocky Road topping. It was kind of apt because that night was Reuben's gf's surprise birthday dinner and luckily I baked something because no one remembered the cake. So yeah, even more apt was the fact that reub's gf is vietnamese....
TODAY finally we get to todayyyy ... the fridge was getting seriously full and first to go was my applesauce cos I had been eating it for the past 184546 lunches and sick of it. So I made Caramel Apple Cupcakes.... frosted in two different ways:
This is half of the batch of 12 cupcakes. These ones have caramel ginger buttercreamn frosting with a chocolate apple-shaped thingummy on top. haha... CARAMEL OVERKILL~ It tasted a bit like creme brulee...
This is the other half of the batch - with plain ole vanilla buttercream. It tastes like soft serve on top and apple pie below! woohoo~
And now i am extremely extremely sick and tired and i'm going to take my drowsy meds now and sleep and worry about my homework TOMORROW!
