drifting away part three

The female groaned to heserlf, gripping the sides of the steering wheel as a way to relieve herself of her stress. She and her vehicle were parked outside of the... park. “I’m old enough to go out by myself for fifteen minutes!” she barked into her cell phone, apparently cranky from not getting enough sleep the previous night. The sight in front of her caused her mind to go blank and her mouth to freeze open. “I’ll call back later, Mom. Bye.” She started up the engine before rolling down a window. “Kyuhyun!”

Kyuhyun had been her childhood friend. Said girl now paused mid-stride and turned to face the voice with swollen eyes. “B-Bonnie?” The English name rolled off her tongue awkwardly, even more pressured as she forced it out between breathy sobs.

The Vietnamese-American hopped out of her car, scurrying over to the older girl. “What’s wrong?”

“M-Mi.”

“You?”

“NO! Not me. Zhou Mi!”

Bonnie sighed, closing her eyes. “What did the idiot do to you? I’ll punch him upside the head for you. I swear, he and my BF are practically branded under the same level of stupidity.” Leading her over to one of the benches, she murmured, “Tell me everything.”

“You know, sometimes you have to listen. Listen, no matter how much you don’t want to.”

Kyuhyun huffed, drawing her attention to a pair of ducks gliding on the pond surface nearby. “Lies,” she whispered in a barely audible voice. “All the things that come out from his mouth are lies.”

“Not all. When he came to visit you, he asked, ‘Are you okay? You look terrible.’ And it’s true. You look as if you’ve just narrowly escaped your death bed! If one of his statements is true, who’s to say that any of his other statements are false? If he can tell the truth once, then he can do it again. ‘The letters - you still kept them?’ You did keep them, after so long. So those are more honest words. You have to trust him, Kyu. Go back there and get together again.”

Kyuhyun regarded her friend, the girl who had always been one of those overly-sympathetic people. The girl who routinely left the house in clothes that didn’t necessarily match and the wardrobe that consisted of nothing but jeans, hoodies, and t-shirts. Bonnie had always been the too-nice, soft-spoken girl everyone took advantage of and pushed around - that is, until she grew a spine. Until then, nobody took her seriously. “Thank you. And I don’t need your pity anymore, so stop looking at me with that face.”

Bonnie smiled, and waved her off. “Good luck.”

Zhou Mi leaned against a lamppost, hoping for it to withstand his weight. His limbs were aching, and carefully tucked under his arm was the box of snippets from their past - his and Kyuhyun’s. Where could she have gotten to in such a short period of time?

Slumping against the post in guilt, he thought, I had underestimated her.

Everything in this very box and the container itself represented everything they had been through - it was oh-so-fragile, as their current relationship. He had to protect it with his life; if they couldn’t get back together, at least he would have the memories. The sky produced a clap of thunder, startling him. Dark clouds began to accumulate over him, blanketing his part of the world in thick misery.

And the next thing he knew, he was drowning in that misery. Zhou Mi lifted his head up, allowing the droplets to stream freely down his face. Removing his jacket, he draped it around the cardboard box. “I’m sorry. I was an idiot.”

It was cold. Oh-so-cold.

It had started raining when Kyuhyun had reached her front porch.

Raining, as in, raining Calicos and Chihuahuas.

Peeking through her front door, she realized the house was empty. Traipsing through the halls and corridors, she finally came to a stop by her room. A hot pink sticky note was stuck to her door. If you don’t need any of these pictures and letters anymore, I’ll take them.

She pulled on a jacket and grabbed her umbrella before heading back out the door. Flagging down a passerby, she inquired, “Did you happen to see this really tall guy with a box of something run by?”

The lady nodded before pointing out where he had headed.

Kyuhyun thanked her lucky stars Zhou Mi was so unique.

Kyuhyun found him situated under a lamppost. By then, he was soaked to the bone and his nose was running - not that she could tell, of course, due to the rain still streaming down. “Mi! What are you doing?”

Zhou Mi glanced up weakly at her with a sniffle, hugging the jacket-enveloped box in his arms. “Must... protect,” he rasped.

“You idiot!” she cried in response, shrugging her own jacket off her shoulders before throwing it on him. Kyuhyun held up the umbrella so that it created a shield for both of them. “How long have you been out here?”

His mumbled reply was incoherent, but she wrapped an arm around his waist for support as the pair limped home.

Kyuhyun wasn’t exactly sure how she did it, but after a few moments within her house, she had gotten him into a dry set of pajamas. “I started out sick and now you’re sick.” Zhou Mi was splayed across her bed, wrapped in one of her wool blankets. She lamented under her breath whilst stirring a cup of tea for her guest.

“Is this yours?” he queried, referring to the blanket.

“Yep. Why?”

“It smells like you,” he explained with a smile before burying himself deeper into the fabric, to which Kyuhyun flushed. “So... what brought about this sudden change of heart?” He suddenly fixed her in an intense gaze as he continued on. “You didn’t have to go looking for me.”

She fidgeted under the urgency of the question and as he drew closer to her. Suddenly, Zhou Mi halted as his face was an inch from hers, obviously waiting for Kyuhyun to take initiative.

It had been a long time since they’ve had any real contact - too long, that Kyuhyun just didn’t know what to do anymore. So she just grabbed him by the shoulders and pressed in greedily.

They were drifting together again.

Dude. I just hate it when I got this whole precise, long author's note out and then it doesn't show up. I'm not going to try to remember the whole thing again, just the basics XD

I just... don't know what I'm writing anymore XD I can't write angst without getting all cheesy. But I like cheesy :D THE BEST WAY TO PROPOSE TO ME IS WITH CHEESY STUFFS. 0:]

I smacked myself in the middle of nowhere in the fic. Basically since I had no idea how else I would get Kyu to forgive Mi. [Whoa, almost typed 'me' for a second there.]

Okay. Byeebyee. :D
