Thirty-Seventh Blog: Merry 100th Post

Merry Christmas/Happy Hannukah, everyone. I hope all of you are having a good holiday.

This is also officially my 100th post on this LJ. *tosses confetti* Time for a theme change~

Christmas Eve was all over the place for me. My evening at work wasn't terrific but it could have gone a lot worse. I only had one jerk of a customer (a father with three little girls might I add, how lovely), and for the most part everyone else was polite. I had planned on going to dinner with my mother and stepfather to my stepdad's parents' house, but that unfortunately didn't happen when my rather irate mother expected me to go straight there in my work clothes. I was not willing to comply to this, and another argument ensued, so I opted to stay at home. I didn't want to go from the start anyway, and after a long day of tending to the needs of other people, I was not going to go anywhere with someone calling me selfish because I didn't want to show up to a dinner party looking like something the cat dragged in. Excuse me. A lot of people say Christmas should be about spending it with your family, but they forget not everyone has a tremendous relationship with their parents. (I can see the reason so many people get hammered during the holidays, as inappropriate as it is.)

Fortunately, I had back-up plans. After making myself my own Christmas dinner out of a microwave deep dish pizza, I decided to spend the evening with my friends saemir and faerynutz. I didn't get to see ejecthefloppy though, which bummed me out, but she was busy with her family. saemir taught us how to play with dreidels (she's Jewish) and we goofed off for a while playing Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Things are pretty quiet today, just how I like it. No work, no snow, no college. And after today, no more irritating Christmas nonsense for a whole year. Thank merciful Gaea.

Recently I stumbled across A Goofy Movie. I haven't seen it in years, so I thought why not watch it again? I still think it's a pretty good film. You feel bad for both Goofy for not being able to relate to his teen son despite his repeated attempts to, and for Max who can't convince Goofy he's not a little kid anymore. (The sequel, An Extremely Goofy Movie, wasn't as great, but it wasn't terrible. Not as good as the first one though IMO.) Watching it I found a shot of Max that sums up a majority of my experiences this year. A rough 65% anyway.

...*shakes head*...

I blame people, Square Enix, my crappy computer and my finances. Hopefully 2012 will be better, if the world doesn't end.
Semi-related, I was looking for a .gif of this shot (Max actually shakes his head in immense disapproval here, but I can't make .gifs because I suck), and I found there's actual fanart of Max and his love interest in the movie, Roxanne. This one's pretty nice. (At least Google didn't bring up any scary Rule 34 of them.) Speaking of Roxanne, there's another reason I didn't like the sequel as much--Roxanne isn't in it. I don't even remember them mentioning her, she just vanished. It was disappointing considering she was one of the cutest aspects of the first movie. She wasn't just a pretty girl Max liked, but she was a bit shy and awkward like Max was and pretty likeable. Maybe they were going for the Girl Next Door trope with her? In any case it was nice she wasn't just this gorgeous chick that the guy was constantly trying to impress and failing at it (Max did try to impress her but hey, it worked).

I also found Pete and Goofy's interactions rather enjoyable. I think discussing parenting approaches is interesting when people aren't so strict and "my way or no way" about it. Looking at Pete's way of raising PJ, I find myself agreeing too much with him. Raising kids isn't about making sure they love you. It's about making sure they don't end up in the gutter. To be fair there are limits of negative reinforcement, but I find myself believing in that moreso than positive. It's probably another reason I shouldn't have kids.

Watching the movie again, I thought Max and Kovu (from The Lion King II) sounded like the same person. Turns out they were both voiced by the same guy, Jason Marsden. There's another point for me on my voice recognition abilities.

Not an entirely positive post, but hey, this is the best I could do for now. I AM sincerely happy the end-of-year holidays are over, and all things considered it wasn't the worst Christmas I've ever had. What matters is it's OVER. Now I can focus on two new big events: chypie coming to visit, and buying a pair of corn snakes. :>
